The Orioles have hired Jared Banner as the general manager, first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan - Banner, 41, comes to Charm City following his most recent stint at assistant general manager for the Cubs. He has over 20 years of baseball operations experience with the Red Sox, Mets, and Cubs organizations. Banner is considered a rising star in baseball circles. It was only a matter of time before he fulfilled his goal of being a GM. Banner will report to and work very closely with President of Baseball Operations Mike Elias. Elias has been under scrutiny due to the O’s missing the playoffs the last two seasons. The O’s made the playoffs in both 2023 and 2024, but didn’t advance beyond the first series. With his hire, Banner is the only African American GM in MLB, and his hiring is only the 8th in MLB history.
