Last week, I traveled to London to speak with a group of newly promoted law firm partners about perfectionism. 🎤🇬🇧
And as I was preparing for the session, I kept coming back to one question:
What happens when your perfectionism starts shaping the experience of everyone around you?
Because when you're the one being affected by your perfectionism, the costs are obvious.
The late nights. The overthinking. The stress. The exhaustion.
But leadership changes the equation.
Now your perfectionism influences how you delegate. How you respond to mistakes. How the next generation of lawyers learns what success is supposed to look like.
We tend to think of perfectionism as a private struggle with a personal cost.
But for leaders, it rarely stays personal.
The standards you hold become the standards your team learns to work under.
Which is why the goal isn't lower standards. It's greater awareness of the impact those standards have on the people around you.
Grateful for the opportunity to help leaders think not just about the work they're producing, but the culture they're creating. 💫
