The first one most people know about: your circadian rhythm. Roughly 24 hours, governed by light.
The second one is rarely talked about outside of fertility conversations: your infradian rhythm. Roughly 28 days, governed by your menstrual cycle.
Men have one main rhythm. Women have two.
And that is not a flaw in our design. It is an added intelligence.

For some, it is a day of celebration. For others, it may carry longing, uncertainty, hope, or the quiet anticipation of what has not yet arrived.

Today, I want to acknowledge the men who are often left out of the conversation. The partners who show up for appointments, learn the acronyms, hold space for tears, stay hopeful through setbacks, and continue to believe when the path feels unclear.

We were never taught this, but your brain is not the same all month. It shifts in response to fluctuating estrogen and progesterone, and these hormones do not only act on your reproductive system. They shape memory, focus, mood, creativity, and how you process the world around you.
Each phase of your cycle offers a different kind of cognitive strength. The menstrual phase is inward, intuitive, asking for rest. The follicular phase brings focus, verbal fluency, and the brain online for new learning. Ovulation is your most expansive, creative window. The luteal phase brings introspection, big-picture thinking, and a sharper sense of what is not working.
This is not a flaw. It is a feature. And it has been ignored by a world that expects women to perform the same way every day of the month.
In TCM, the wise practitioner moves with the seasons. Your cycle is your inner season. Winter in your bleed. Spring in the follicular phase. Summer at ovulation. Autumn in the luteal days. When you stop fighting the shift and start moving with it, your hormones balance more easily and your nervous system regulates more reliably.
The work is not to be the same every day. The work is to know yourself well enough to honor the difference.
