won Roland Garros already having faced far worse than a mismatched scoreboard.

A wheelchair exit from Paris in 2022, Type 1 diabetes managed on the bench between changeovers, and now a Grand Slam collection that no longer fits in one tournament.

New York was next.

431 double faults in a single season. A record. Not the good kind.

She was already a two-time Grand Slam champion when her own serve started betraying her, live, on camera, in tears. Days before a major, she fired her coach and started over with someone new. No guarantee it would work in time.

“I just show people what it’s like to be a human. I have bad days. It’s about how you get up after.”

His dad was a pro. His mom played. His sister played. wanted to be a quarterback.

Last night, the guy who didn’t touch a racket seriously until 11 beat Carlos Alcaraz in the latest-ever finish in US Open history, 4 hours and 28 minutes, ending at 3:33am.

Next up: an all-American semifinal against Frances Tiafoe.

Sometimes the road you almost didn’t take is the one that makes you different.

大坂なおみ🇭🇹🇯🇵 is “The Answer”.

A designer once asked Naomi Osaka one question. Not what colors she liked.

“What excites you?”

Every answer became fabric. A butterfly became flowers on a hat. Her daughter’s bows became an entire look. A children’s book became a jellyfish.

In psychology, this is called Narrative Identity. You don’t just live your story. You keep telling it, in every form available to you.

Eileen Gu turns 23.

This week, she told Jay Shetty her mantra: “I train like I’ve never won, and I compete like I’ve never lost.”

She explained why: winning once is hard. Staying on top is harder. The mindset is what keeps her hungry enough to do both.

At 8, she was the only girl in her ski group. At 15, she chose to represent China over the US, and got called a traitor for it. Asked if she’s American or Chinese, her answer never changes: both.

6 Olympic medals. Stanford. A mind she treats like a system she’s constantly upgrading.

Most people would call that a losing streak. He called it a starting line.

The brain finds whatever you tell it to find. Tell it to count the losses, it will. Tell it to count the wins, it will.

He calls it delusional optimism, and it’s not about ignoring reality. It’s about refusing to let reality write the ending.

Player of the Season. Footballer of the Year. Players’ Player of the Year.

The hat-trick nobody talks about, voted by the players who line up against him every week.

21 assists. A Premier League record. And he’s still not done.

August 26th is International Dog Day.

The most important staff member in elite sport doesn’t have a contract, a salary, or a title. Just unconditional love.

Charles Leclerc has one. Arsenal have one. Aryna Sabalenka has one. Their dog doesn’t know the score. It just runs to you. Every single time.

In psychology, this is called Unconditional Positive Regard. Petting a dog releases oxytocin and lowers cortisol.

Sometimes the most powerful thing is a creature that just wants to sit next to you.
