Guest Testimonial. Randy,
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge to make our trip an unbelievable experience for us. With me having 8 to 9 hookups, and my friend Tim with somewhere between 5 to 6 that is more fish on in a single day than some people have for an entire season. I'm a true believer in that hot spot on "Pucker Brush Creek :)

As a matter of fact Tim and I went back on our own the next day and the fish were there waiting for us just like you said they would be. Again we had a combined count of over 10 hookups and Tim had the hot hand that day with his 6 weight fly rod. Our only regret was that we did not have enough days left to explore some of the other high percentage areas you showed us as we had to go back to work sometime. Who says old dogs can't learn new tricks?:) Tim and I have been coming up there for over 15 years, and yet we still learned a few valuable lessons from you, thanks again. I would highly recommend you to anyone, beginner or experienced steelheader, it's the combination of little things and techniques that make all the difference in the world. Feel free to pass on my contact information if you need any references for anglers. I would be more than happy to vouch for your professionalism, knowledge, and stream courtesy to fellow anglers anytime. Thank You, Ted
-
Thanks for your many kind and generous words Ted! My head almost didn't fit thru the front door after that one :) Randy

Salmon River Fishing Report.
Spring RUN of FRESH Steelhead happening NOW.
By Randy Jones with 35 Yrs. of drift boat EXP. And over 2,000 trips.
-
As everyday passes, we are seeing more Fresh Dime Bright Silver Bullet Chrome Steelhead enter and run the Salmon River.
Offering You Opportunity with a presence of Steelhead.
-
ADDED BONUS.
Besides these FRESH Spring Steelhead.
You also have ALL the older Fall and Winter Steelhead to fish for.
Offering You EVEN MORE Opportunity! With a 100% presence of Steelhead! Ye-Haa!
-
CURRENTLY on the Salmon River.
We have approx. 94% Older Fall and Winter Resident Steelhead.
And approx. 6% fresh Steelhead.
===

Today's TIP to INCREASE your odds SIGNIFICANTLY.
For most of March.
The MAJORITY of Steelhead will remain in their Prime Winter habitat.
These Winter Habitats, will normally have 10 to 100 Steelhead in them.
-
With some Fresh steelhead running and holding. In their Temporary Resting spots, as they run the river.
Who are all looking for some Prime Winter Habitat to hold in, thru most of March.
===

CURRENT WATER BONUS!
They just raised the water level in the river. From 300cfs to 750cfs.
This rise in water levels in the Spring. Always HELPS to generate runs of FRESH Spring steelhead.
-
COMBINE this higher water and the Steelheads biological clock to Spawn this Spring.
And it will 100% FORCE them to enter and run the Salmon River. Now, thru the end of March.
-
If you COMBINE all of the above.
March will be a GOOD Month for you!
===

100% of the Salmon River steelhead are feeling their biological clock ticking towards the Spring Spawn.
Making the Steelhead behave a lil differently, depending on what Stage of the Spawn they are in.
-
Currently, you have Steelhead in ALL 3 stages of the spawn.
Approx.
1.- 98% Pre-spawn steelhead.
2. - 1% Spawning steelhead.
3. - 1% Post Spawn Drop Back steelhead.
Each stage is unique and puts different requirements on the Steelhead and causes the angler to adjust, in my opinion.
-
Spring Steelhead fishing is when the ENTIRE Salmon River comes ALIVE.
From Top to Bottom. To one side of the river to the other. (within reason).
With Salmon River Pre-Spawn Steelhead, Spawning Steelhead and Drop Back Steelhead.
===

Now thru the 3rd week of March.
The number of Spawning and Drop Back Steelhead will “very very slowly” increase.
-
After the 3rd week of March thru most of April.
You will see an EXPLOSION of Spawning and Drop Back Steelhead.
-
During this Time Period.
You will see a transition of Steelhead from the holes onto the gravel, where they will spawn.
They will then turn into HUNGRY drop-back Steelhead.
-
If you plan to target Drop Back Steelhead.
April is the BEST TIME with the LARGEST numbers!
===

More WELCOMED Snow has arrived!
We are over approx. 130 inches in Town. And Tug Hill has even MORE snow. (Which is were we get most of our run-off from).
This will help prolong our Spring Steelhead fishing season into April.
By keeping the water higher and colder.
To hopefully extend your Spring Steelhead fishing into late April, early May.

Salmon River Fishing Report.
It’s Time to Get Yer FISH ON!
We have decent, ok to good #'s of Steelhead Top to Bottom of the Salmon River.
With some spots holding MORE and some spots holding Less.
All the normal Winter spots are producing daily.
Offering You Opportunity with a presence of Steelhead. -- Ye-Haa!
-
Due to Winter temp's. we always have fewer anglers fishing.
With many spots wide open with unpressured Steelhead.
Just waiting for YOU!
-
Anglers are finding the fishing either. - Slow, so-so, ok, good to GREAT!
Depending on a number of different Variables and Factors.
-
We currently have mostly older darker Steelhead, with a few Freshies in the mix.
These older Steelhead are the ones that have been entering the Salmon River since this Fall.
Mostly during our past many higher water periods.
Filling the river up to an Acceptable - Satisfactory level and Fulfilling expectations.
===

YOUR 100% GUARANTEED Future Steelhead Fishing Forecast.
We will have MANY MORE Steelhead arriving this Late Winter into Spring. (On top of ALL the ones that are already in the Salmon River).
Due to their Spring Spawn Biological clock.
Which DEMANDS and FORCES them to enter and run the river!
===

LOADED with Steelhead!
TOP SECRET (edited) FISHING REPORT.
I went 3 for 6 on Steelhead @ (edited for content) in the afternoon. All were caught using (edited for content).
This morning I fished the (edited for content) and was 2 for 5 on Steelhead using (edited for content).
The last spot I fished was LOADED with Steelhead @ (edited for content). – har har.
===

A lil Winter trick for the SIZE and COLORS of your egg sack.
In the Fall, you throw quarter size egg sacks.
In the Winter, you should normally throw dime sized egg sacks.
-
The famous Blue Goo egg sacks are producing. And it's one of the top colors for Winter Steelhead.
White egg sacks imitate a dead egg. Which will work for you.
Pink is a great color for fresh Steelhead.
If the water is off color or dirty. Then a chartreuse colored egg sack is the way to go.
Cream - Peach color's are a great way to imitate the natural color of fresh laid eggs.
===

FISHING NOW?
This could save you a WASTED trip to the middle or lower Salmon River. With temp's. 0 to 15 above.
-
SALMON RIVER SLUSH – Planning your Winter Steelhead fishing day around it.
Slush is a Winter occurrence that causes certain areas of the Salmon River to be unfishable.
-
Knowing the current and future forecasted water level for tomorrow.
Tonight's predicted low temp's. with tomorrow's high temp.
Will help you decide where to begin or end your day of steelhead fishing.
-
Sample:
Flow is 335-500 cfs. Evening low temp. is 5 deg. and daytime highs are around 32 deg. (No heavy snow is forecast)
The Key here is the nighttime low.
Normally if the low is below 20 deg. you will have slush from Pineville down.
If the low is only 20 deg. then you may not have any slush the entire length of the Salmon River.
-
When slush is present at these air temp’s.
Then normally by 10-11 A.M. the lower part of the Salmon River will clear out and make steelhead fishing possible.
-
If you’re ever not sure, than do what I sometimes do.
Go to the short bridge in Pulaski and have a look for yourself, before planning your day.
OR, @ 10-11am. Before heading down river to fish. Have a look to see if the slush is clearing or cleared.
If air temp’s do not rise above 20 for the daytime high, then you may have slush down river all day.
-
If I’m planning to start my Salmon River fishing at dawn, then I’ll start up top.
And then later possibly move down river, once the slush has had a chance to clear.
-
If the slush is starting to clear . And you are the first to arrive at a fishing spot.
After it has cleared, than the chances of hooking-up are GOOD!
You will be the first angler fishing to fresh steelhead.
That have not been disturbed or pressured.
FISH-ON!
-
This same condition occurs on the smaller Creeks and Streams around the Salmon River in early-late winter.
Many an early A.M. trip has ended with a return trip, when slush was not considered.
I will always check air temp’s the day before I plan fishing the creeks.
Often, I will arrive at 10 A.M.
And fish while the last balance of slush is clearing.
And getting first shot at the prime spots.
FISH-ON!
===
===
*** WARNING! - Anglers should use extreme caution around shelf ice, which has formed as much as 20 feet off the shoreline but is not strong enough to support weight.
===
Things are looking Great, for your upcoming Salmon River Steelhead fishing trip in Pulaski NY.

STEELHEAD! - Salmon River Fishing Report.
IT'S TIME! - With steady daily #'s.
By Salmon River Drift Boat Guide Randy Jones @ https://www.yankeeangler.com/
With 35 yrs. EXP. and Over 2,000 drift boat trips.
-
Over this last week. We have seen our first noticeable push's of Steelhead and Brown Trout.
From now on, the Steelhead #'s will be increasing day by day on the Salmon River. And will be the dominant species entering the river, now thru the Spring.
-
We have Steelhead Running the River.
With some Steelhead holding in their mid. day resting spots.
And some Steelhead are in their Prime Fall fishing Habitats.
With some Steelhead sitting behind the Spawning Salmon eating their eggs.
-
Currently, the Salmon River is a Five Star smorgasbord of an all you can eat Salmon egg buffet for your Steelhead. Which is why the are entering the river.
Then in Nov. the Steelhead will continue to target Salmon eggs. To include Brown Trout eggs.
The Brown Trout are entering the river now, to prepare to spawn in Nov. So Nov. is the BEST Mo. to target them.
====

100% GUARANTEED!
Complementary STEELHEAD FISHING TIPS.
To help YOU Catch MORE!
-
Many steelhead will be holding behind spawning Salmon and Brown Trout.
To include the first current break directly below these spawning Salmon or Brown Trout. Where they can easily intercept the eggs being laid, as they float down the river.
-
The Salmon River Water Temp. is currently above 43 degrees. So your Prime Fall Holding Steelhead Habitats will be fishing the BEST!
For Fall Steelhead, always fish the water that is rippled, choppy or white water. Not flat.
They won’t be in the Pools until the water temp. drops below 43 degrees.
-
Most of the Steelhead I find. Are the ones that are Transitioning up the Salmon River and holding in their middle of the day resting spots. (Between approx. 9:30am. and 5:30pm.).
Or in their Prime Fall fishing Habitat, where the Steelhead will sit for an extended period of time on the Salmon River.
-
Offer the Steelhead what 99% of them want.
Use Quarter sized egg sacks in Orange, cream, peach, white, blue and pink.
Pink is a great color for fresh Steelhead.
Use Chartreuse if the water is muddy colored.
Use any egg imitations in the same colors. Single or multiple. Whether your Steelhead spin fishing, float fishing or fly fishing on the Salmon River in Pulaski NY.
-
*** If your FLY FISHING. - You owe me BIG TIME for this Tip!
#1 colored glow bug (egg imitation) is cream or peach.
Day in and day out, it's pretty much the ONLY color I use.
====

This years BONUS that will help you catch MORE Steelhead.
-
We have a Better than normal number of fresh King and Coho Salmon in the River currently.
-
This is great news! These Salmon will be our late spawners. Providing a smorgasbord of fresh eggs trickling down the Salmon River for your Steelhead.
-
This makes it a lot EASIER to fool Steelhead with your egg sacks, beads, glow bugs and skein. Whether your fishing the bottom, under a strike indicator or under a float.
-
Presently, the Salmon River is a 5 Star Restaurant for your Steelhead. Top to Bottom of the River.
====

What helps to bring more Steelhead in?
Cooler days and nights drop the Salmon River water temp.
Higher water flows from the Dam or even run-off from rain.
Extended low-light periods caused by storms. A strong West wind.
====

RAIN. - WILL IT BE ENOUGH?
To fill the reservoir and raise the water level in the River?
Lot's of rain in the future forecast, with some very heavy.
From 10/19 Sunday night thru 11/2.
====

LATEST Hatchery NEWS.
They have started collecting Salmon eggs up @ the Hatchery.
BUT they currently have issues.
1. They are currently short on the #'s they need.
2. Many Salmon are small and not producers.
3. The low flow and warm water are the culprits hindering collection.
====

STEELHEAD avg. 6-10 lbs. with some LARGER!
These Steelhead are without a doubt, one of the hardest fighting Fish that swims in the Salmon River.
-
With Catapulting Acrobatic Tarpon Jumps, like a rocket ship 3-4 feet in the air.
Somersaulting Flips like a jugglers baton back to earths atmosphere, before splash down.
Sounding like a cinder block with water spraying 20 feet in all directions.
-
Torpedo – Silver Bullet Speeding Runs taking your line 100 to 200 feet out in seconds.
And changing direction in a blink of an eye, well surely jump start your fishing heart!
-
Steelhead Tail Walks across the river for 40 to 60 feet, will live in your Salmon River memory forever!
====

Brown Trout avg. 3-5 lbs. with some LARGER!
You can catch Brown Trout anytime while fishing for Steelhead. While they are not as numerous as Salmon or Steelhead.
They are an optional Trophy of a Salmon River Fishing life time!

Salmon River Fishing Report. - King and Coho Salmon.
GET UP HERE - NOW!
First GOOD steady run's of Salmon are happening now! And the Salmon are being FORCED to enter and run the river now.
-
For this last week. We have been averaging 150 to 300 Salmon each day. To include both low-light periods.
And hoping for a MAJOR RUN of 1,000 to 3,000 King and Coho Salmon entering daily over a 1-5 day period. (Now thru Mid. Oct.)
-
For this last week in the lower lower river. (Depending where you were standing. Combined with fish movement).
The fishing was a combination of:
1. Slow to ok. - Offering all anglers opportunity.
But MOSTLY:
2. GOOD! - Anglers are hooking up steadily.
3. EXCELLENT! Anglers can't keep the fish off the line.
GET UP HERE - NOW!
====

For the Lower Salmon River.
99% Crystal Ball FUTURE fishing Prediction!
Could we see a MAJOR RUN of 1,000 to 3,000 King and Coho Salmon?
-
Tues. - Rain showers in the morning will evolve into a more steady rain in the afternoon. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch.
Tues. night. - A steady rain in the evening. Showers continuing late. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall around a half an inch.
Wed. am. - A chance of showers before 8am. - (meaning low-light).
-
*** If it's an all day rain event, providing low-light. You could see a steady all day run!
*** If the rain run-off into the river, raises the water level by 50cfs. That also can provide better runs.
====

From the Lake to the Upper Salmon River.
We have a TON of Salmon staging shallower by the day in Lake Ontario. In front of the mouth of the Salmon River. Soon to enter the Estuary and stage. Then run the river.

IMAGE - SALMON FISHING THIS FALL?
Fisherman loses 4 front teeth while doing Battle with a MONSTER King Salmon.
Featured Image - (Before and after his Dental Surgery)
-
He lost all four of his front teeth as a result of a King Salmon fishing related accident. In October 2014 on the Salmon River.
-
When he was fishing the Salmon River the water level was way up. And had several heavy split shot sinkers on his line to get his bait down.
He hooked a “HUMONGOUS” King salmon. As he reeled in the Salmon and got it close to shore. Rodriguez’s line snapped and the sinkers on the line flew at his face. Hitting him squarely in the mouth.
-
“It completely knocked me out!” he said in an interview last year. “I fell in the water and all I remember was this old guy dragging me to land. If it hadn’t been for that old guy, “I would have been dead that day!”
-
He tried to get used to having no front teeth, but suffered silently, said his wife, Tracy. He was reluctant to smile.
----
The funniest spit shot story I've ever witnessed.
Line breaks, split second later, the heavy lead split shot hits the man squarely in the Crotch!
He doubles over in pain. And falls into the river.
He survived and once the pain wore off. He was happily back Salmon fishing a few minutes later.

-
The Salmons biological clock is ticking. Which will FORCE them to enter and run the Salmon River DAILY.
-
We have a TON of Salmon staging shallower by the day in Lake Ontario. In front of the mouth of the Salmon River. Soon to enter the Estuary and stage. Then run the river.
-
We have a GOOD # of Salmon in the Estuary staging. Soon to run the river!
-
We have Salmon entering and running the river DAILY.
Consisting of sporadic singles to pods of 4 to 10 Salmon. With occasional more consistency, with slightly better #'s.
-
All the Major Holes on the Salmon River are holding "Some Salmon". Top to bottom. With some holding GOOD #'s.
-
Rapids continue to produce. Mostly during low-light periods. With recorded mostly slow - occasional ok - sporadic good. With a few "right time - right place - REEL GOOD!
-
Some Salmon holding in their middle of the day resting locations.
====
99% Crystal Ball FUTURE fishing Prediction!
This Monday thru Wed. (and possibly further into the weekend).
-
Low-light with rain. That might cause a GOOD RUN.
From ALL the Salmon staging in the Estuary currently.
-
ALL DAY Low-light is One of a number of Major factors. That can help induce a better # of Salmon, to decide to enter and run the river. Because it makes them feel safer.
-
2nd Major factor, amongst others.
If we get enough rain, with RUN-OFF. Raising the water level in the river by only 50cfs. Can easily cause a DESCENT RUN.
====

Did You Know?
There were sooooo many Cohos in the holding tanks at the hatchery. They put them in a truck and drove them back to the bottom of the river. And made them run the Salmon River all over again!
-
DSR Fishing Report Humor.
Remember the good ol days, when the DSR fishing reports were either. Slow, ok, good Or GET UP HERE NOW?
===

*** 9/19 NY DEC just said in an interview with a news reporter. @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfvSFY-qleM
They have a few more weeks of water in the reservoir to continue a 185cfs water release level.
And they wont hit the panic button until approx. Oct. 13 Columbus day.
And the day after Columbus day, they usually begin to take eggs @ the hatchery.
-
(Besides the low water and lack of rain).
There biggest concern currently. Is Beaver dam brook is just a trickle. Making it much more difficult for the Salmon to reach the hatchery. So they can get their allotment of eggs.
They are working on measures to remediate that currently.
-
One thing they have already done, is place sand bags in Beaver dam brook.
To try to back-up and create, check dams to help get the fish thru the shallow riffle areas. Which were an impediment.
They also have a couple of other ideas they may try.
-
THEY SAID:
The # of Salmon this year should be fine, normal. The fish are gonna come regardless.
Many Salmon are currently waiting for cooler water temps. And higher water levels to run the river.
BUT the fish are gonna come, NO MATTER what.
====
A weather man recently stated we are 5 inches of rain down from normal. Starting June to present.

OTHER Local Fishing News. - https://ca.news.yahoo.com/fisherman-loses-state-record-salmon-160128103.html
Angler lands a Record Pink Salmon above the Black Hole section of the Salmon River on Aug. 31.
He took it to an Altmar cleaning station where it was identified as a pink salmon by owner Shane Muckey.
But loses state-record salmon due to ‘bureaucratic housecleaning’

Todays Humor:
Randy, I hear Pulaski will have a Dancing Bear when the Circus comes to town? Joe

Yes Joe! You can see it by standing on the Short Bridge over looking the Salmon River in Pulaski, during the height of King and Coho Salmon season. Its also free and should be on everyone's buck list. Randy
-
Randy, where is the VERY best place to fish for King and Coho Salmon during the Salmon Run on the Salmon River? Thanks, Mike

That’s an easy one Mike, anywhere I’m NOT fishing!!!

ENJOY! – This weeks Salmon reports. – Coming from Credible Sources.
That sum it all up nicely.
-
Whitakers Sports Shop and Motel. - Report.
Most of the anglers we've heard from are fishing the lower end of the river.
Overall the last couple of days the fish movement has been slow.
Anglers have reported that the best action has been first thing in the morning, before the sun gets on the water.
While mid day with the low water conditions, the fish are holding in the deeper holes and larger runs.
====
Edited AM. DSR Report.
Some Kings and Cohos moving upriver.
Providing slow fishing to ok fishing, depending where you were located over 3 miles of river.
====
Out on Lake O. Report - NY Fishtales, Inc.
The inshore bite has been good the past few days and now the offshore bite picked up tremendously. The majority of fish will be hanging around out in the lake for a while yet, due to the extremely low and warm river conditions.
====
Edited AM. DSR Report.
Depending where you were fishing over 3 miles of river.
The fishing was either slow, good, to reeeel good.
And the King and Coho #'s were either low, ok to reeel good.
With Kings and Coho's running the river and also holding in the pools.
Leaving the Estuary. - Some of these Salmon entered the river last evening. With the balance entering the river this morn'n.
====
Whisky River Lodge.
We had the biggest push of fish of the season (so far) come through the middle part of the river today.
====
Edited AM. DSR Report.
There are "hundreds" of Chinook (King) salmon milling about in the Estuary. With a few trickling up and into the river system.
====
All Seasons Sports.
Movement of fish has been different day to day.
Somedays the fish are moving throughout the river and somedays they are pretty stagnant and hanging out in the deep holes.
All your bigger holes are holding good numbers of fish.
The estuary is holding a large number of fish and we are seeing chunks of them enter the run daily. The motherload still sits in the lake as of today.
The lake is producing the best fishing you can ask for.
There is kings and cohos stacked from 10 foot of water all the way to 170 and everywhere in between all over Mexico bay.
====
9/20 Sat. - Edited AM. DSR Report.
Most anglers, but not all. Achieved Moderate success.
-
Sat. AM - In the rapids above town.
The Comfort Zone Bed and Breakfast Rock Report.
35 plus people above! 40 plus people below! 2 maybe 3 fish in the first 2 1/2 hours! And that’s it! Very, very slow!
