Letter submitted to Township, County and State regarding our Merritt Intersection.
These accidents and near misses are so frequent at our little town intersection, maybe new considerations should be looked at. Here is the letter I submitted.

Good Morning,

My name is Jacqui Shaw, owner of Den of Merritt located in Merritt, Michigan.

I am writing on behalf of myself and other community members who have expressed concerns regarding traffic safety at the intersection of M-55 and Merritt Road.

Before pursuing any formal community action, I would like to better understand the data and any previous evaluations that may have been conducted for this intersection.

Would it be possible to provide or direct me to the following information:

• Traffic counts (AADT) for M-55 near Merritt Road
• Traffic counts for Merritt Road at the intersection
• Crash history for the intersection for the last 3–5 years
• Injury and fatal crash statistics, if available
• Any previous traffic signal warrant studies
• Any previous intersection safety reviews or engineering studies
• Information regarding the process for requesting a formal traffic engineering and safety study

Many residents, business owners, and visitors have expressed concerns regarding vehicle speeds, seasonal traffic volume, difficulty entering M-55 from Merritt Road, and several reported near-miss incidents. A recent injury crash at this intersection has increased interest in understanding whether additional safety measures should be considered.

At this time, I am simply seeking information and would appreciate any guidance your office can provide regarding existing data or next steps.
