Trapshooting notes for Saturday June 20, 2026:
Hopefully we are back to normal. It looks to be low to mid 70s, no rain, with a WNW wind at 7 mph+-, and 20% to 40% cloud cover. There will be rain up to 6 am. Munster Donuts in the morning, hot dogs for lunch, and maybe store bought chili for your dogs. We start shooting at 10 am till 3 pm.

I'm making one last extension for the 16/22 league, through June 27. Then we are done. Next league will be a Wobble League. We still have some option cash envelopes from our ATA shoot of June 7th. By the way, those scores have been posted to shooter accounts this morning.

We plan to remove some more wet target boxes from the traps. Then we will load fresh targets, starting 9 am. A few extra hands wouldn't hurt.

Trapshooting update - shooting cancelled tonight:
A recap. First off, we were without power Thursday through Sunday. No wires were down on the property. We did have a tree fall over onto a neighbors property near the east side of the gate. We got water in the traps so all the wet targets were removed to dry off. When they dry they can be used, for practice.

We still need to refill the traps with targets, which we had planned to do today. That brings us to today. There is some serious weather coming our way this afternoon & tonight. The prudent thing to do is to CANCEL shooting tonight. No need to put ourselves in peril. Better to wait it out to resume shooting Saturday. Bill Mager will be checking the club, and I’ll be monitoring remotely. Neither of us plan to be there tonight. If you know of someone that was planning to come out tonight, let them know we will be closed.

Now a word about our 16/22 league. Due to the outage, I will extend the league. There are a few shooters that an are close to finishing.

Finally, thanks to the shooters that came out Saturday to help with the targets and clean debris on the trap field & surrounding area. There is still some cleanup at the gate along the road leading in. That will be a project for another day.

A word to our indoor range shooters. The indoor pistol range is open for business. I see a shooter used the range last night. I’ve not had a call, so I assume the range is is intact, but I’ll follow up.

++++ additional comment ++++
We will be loading targets into trap houses Saturday morning at 9 am. So if you plan on coming to shoot, we could use a few bodies to load fresh targets. Thanks in advance.

Trapshooting update:
We are definitely closed Saturday. Still no power. Power outage could last a while. Our trees & wires are fine. But trees & poles are down all around us. Liverpool is closed north of 57th.

We will be here Saturday to remove wet targets & clean up downed branches. We will have our trap kids working. But we need some volunteers to cut fallen limbs & branches. We have one or two chainsaws. If you can bring one, even better. We'll start around 9:30 am. Even if you can give us a few hours, it would help. Goal is to be cleaned up whenever power comes back.

Storm damage status:
Merrillville was definitely one of the hardest hit communities in the area. We were no exception. We have Bill Mager & Mike Jurich at the club. Here is what I know:
No power
It will take some time to get power
Saturday shooting is EXTREMELY doubtful
It appears our trees & wires are ok

The subdivision to our east, 57th to 61st to Liverpool got hit real hard. Many customers are out of power.

More updates later this afternoon when I check it out. Bill & Mike plan to use a generator to pump water out if traps. We will need help. If anyone has a few hours to help today & Saturday, we would appreciate it.

Based on the widespread outage & damage, as of right now, I don't see how we can open for shooting.

NO trapshooting tonight June 10:
As most of you figured out, it's black out there, and raining hard. It may clear up in a few hours. But, we are CLOSED tonight. Stay home.

Results of ATA Shoot on Sunday June 7, 2026:
The Weather was good, clear but hot. Shooters were sweating for sure. We expected rain in the early afternoon, but we lucked out.

16 Yard Event:
Once again there was an attempt to collect the 100 Straight Bounty, but no cigar. Lew Turk came the closest with a 99, followed with 98’s by Chris Geron, Lester Busch & Tim Richards, with 97’s by Tom Antczak & Ed Turk. There were more scores in the 90’s. A total of 14 shooters broke 90 or better.

Handicap Event:
The Handicap did have some excitement. Chris Grown ran 88 straight from 21 yards, then dropped a few to end up with a 97. The bounty of $500 eluded him again. Last year he tried the same thing, but with a 99. But it did earn him a lock for the Middle 50, $80 payout. Plus he earned a yard punch. Pete Brissette earned a half yard with 96, after taking a 1 yard reduction last month. If you’re good, you elevate to your right yardage. Then came a 94 by Tim Richards, same score as in last week’s Zone shoot. Ed Turk came in with a 92, followed by 90’s by Jay Frederick, Lew Turk and Tom Antczak.

Doubles Event:
Tom Antczak was on fire with a pair of 48’s, followed by Lester Busch, Jr with a 92. They were followed by 91’s by Tom Jenkins, Lew Turk and Tim Richards.

Tom Antczak & Tim Richards tied in the HOA with 283, but Tim took it with a long run based on total scores per event

All the reports & scores have been uploaded to the ATA, and fees paid. ITA has been paid also. I expect shooter scores will be posted to shooter accounts by the ATA in the next day or two, in time for the Silver Shoot at Fulton County Gun Club this coming weekend.
Our next shoot will be Sunday July 5th. By the way, if anyone would like a printout of their average card, please let me know next time you are at the club. We do have payout envelopes for several shooters, so see me at the counter next time you are at the club. Finally, I appreciate the shooters’ understanding and patience. The Center trap went down just before the Doubles started, preventing us the use the center trap for Doubles.

We threw 7,000 targets, and hosted 28 shooters. The Options and Added Money for this shoot totaled $689 in payouts.

Trapshooting notes for Sat (6/6) & Sun (6/7):
The forecast does look iffy for both days. However, the radar looks very promising. We will be there Saturday & Sunday ATA. Please note that we plan to load targets Saturday, weather permitting. A few volunteers would help a LOT.

Saturday practice starts 10 am. Some donuts in the morning. Since I've run out of time, hot dogs for lunch. I highly suggest shooters get their league rounds in as last day is still scheduled to be June 13th.

Sunday ATA is planned to go forward. Once again, the radar looks very good. Here is the presquad sheet. Oh, those planning to shoot on the first 3 squads, please be here by 9:30 to register & classify.

Trapshooting this week:
Saturday weather looks very iffy. If you have a need to smell some gunpowder, you may want to come out tonight because weather will be ideal. If there are any able bodies at 3:30 - 4:00, we may load some targets to beat Saturday's possible rain. On the bright side, Sunday's ATA weather looks great.
