My thoughts after coming home from a long run after speed week, I’m still at a loss for words really.
I started this build in the middle of May, and pulled it off the lift the day before we left for Bonneville. This is all so surreal to me……
My first run down range, the shifter fell off before I could even grab third. 63mph. Impressive 😳
My second and third runs, the bike tried to throw me off because I had the fallaway adjustment way too tight and the bike was fighting itself around 85mph, and that’s the fastest I could get it, it was unridable. We also tossed the shocks in the toolbox and built struts. There is a mobile welder that will drive to your pit and save your ass if you need him. In this case he had 1/2 wall spring steel, and he cut us a couple pieces to length.
After we fixed all of that, it started to become a rocket, and we could start making big swings. We started going fast. We saw 130’s and our first license. Then we got her to 140’s and she hit a wall. I thought sprocket would fix it, but I went the wrong way on teeth, the bike felt like it hit a wall, slowed way down. By now I can’t remember what day we are on. I usually only try one change at a time when I’m at the race track. But I felt like we were running out of time, and parts. I knew that with this sprocket combo we were at the limit of what we could do. 150mph was probably all we could get out here at this meet. We went back to the smaller sprocket and I threw a bigger jet at it. Now it’s day 6, 7am, and it shot ducks the entire course. 127-128 mph all out. I chose the wrong jet.
Back to the pit. Down two jet sizes. Lean it out. I’ll Burn it down if I have to. We’re going to get this license is all I have in my head. Fastest jet change in the world and back to the line. But right in front of us a car crashed at over 200 and shut the long course down for quite awhile. Our hearts go out to the Speranza/Brant Team. ❤️🩹
Being the first down the lane after that was absolutely nerve wracking. But by that time the DA was over 7000ft at +90degrees. We had 148mph pinned. That’s all she had. I finally got the right jet
Back in line first thing in the morning, last day, Day 7
We didn’t change a thing. DA 5300ft.
We squeezed out a 150.023 out of it. Just enough to get a C license.
I came into this with the mindset to just get the bike through tech inspection. And if I could make a few passes I’d be happy. I ended up with 11-12 runs and my C license overall which I still cannot believe. I can’t thank my crew enough. Without them none of this would be possible.
