THE SPORTS BUZZ On The Air:
Game of the Week Post Game Show
District 5-3A, DII: CLIFTON Cubs 56, DUBLIN Lions 7

THE SPORTS BUZZ ON THE AIR talks to Clifton football head coach Brent Finney, along with co-players of the game senior running back Judd New and junior linebacker Jose Acros after the Cubs survived back-to-back road trips to run all over the Dublin Lions on their way to a dominating 56-7 victory in a key District 5-3A, DII clash last Friday night at Bob and Norma Cervetto Stadium for THE SPORTS BUZZ Game Of The Week, sponsored by Clifton Feed and Service Center, Inc.

After clinching their fourth straight trip to the Class 3A, Division II postseason in convincing fashion, the Clifton Cubs (3-1 in district, 7-2 overall) will battle for a share of their first district championship since 2019 when they host the Brady Bulldogs (4-0, 7-2) at 7 p.m. Friday on Senior Night at Cub Stadium.

Featuring a balanced attack against Dublin, Clifton piled up a season-high 493 yards of total offense as New found his way into the endzone four times while rushing for 150 yards and catching three passes for 44 yards. On the ground, the Cubs piled up a season-high 312 yards rushing on 44 carries.

While the defense shut out Dublin for more than three quarters and came up with five turnovers, junior linebacker Jose Arcos collected a game-high 17 tackles, more than any Cub all season long.

Back this season, THE SPORTS BUZZ On The Air will premiere one of its weekly 15-minute highlight and interview segments every Thursday evening at 6:40 p.m., sponsored by Clifton Feed and Service Center, Inc., before the 7 p.m. feature film at the historic and beautifully-renovated Cliftex Theatre in Clifton, the longest continuously running movie house in Texas, showing films on the silver screen since 1916.

HOME HOSTILITY
Class 3A’s seventh-ranked Clifton Lady Cubs dethrone defending District 17-3A champion West with season sweep

After wrapping up the first round of District 17-3A competition in sole possession of first place, the seventh-ranked Clifton Lady Cubs took a big step toward capturing their first district title in 20 years with back-to-back victories to open the second round.

But most importantly, the Lady Cubs (7-0 in district, 33-6 overall) left no doubt against the arch-rival West Lady Trojans with a dominating straight set sweep, 25-11, 25-18, 25-12, Tuesday night at the Clifton High School gymnasium.

With the win over West (4-3, 18-17), Clifton extended their winning streak to 12 straight matches without surrendering a single set. And in the process, the Lady Cubs clinched their fifth consecutive trip to the postseason.

GETTING THE JOB DONE
In their District 5-3A, DII opener, the Class 3A, DII Clifton Cubs make long road trip to dominate Eastland, host Early Friday

Junior quarterback Jackson Ritz ran for one touchdown and threw for another by connecting with junior Eduardo Garcia on a 24-yard scoring strike while the bend-but-don’t-break Cub defense keyed Clifton’s solid 28-6 victory over the winless Eastland Mavericks last Friday at Maverick Stadium.

This week, the Cubs (1-0 in district, 5-1 overall) come home to host the Early Longhorns (1-0, 2-4) in a key district game at 7 p.m. Friday at Cub Stadium. Snapping a four-game losing streak, the Longhorns upset defending district champion Tolar, 43-14, in their district opener last Friday night.
