The Lakes Region Holiday Basketball Tournament kicked off in Gilford today. The Newfound girls fell to Laconia 32-21, with Emily MacLean leading the Bears with seven points and the Newfound boys defeated the Sachems 50-42, led by 22 points from Jayden Belyea. The Moultonborough girls defeated Winnisquam by a 53-35 score, with Payton Bernow leading the Panthers with 14 points and Caidyn Carter leading the Bears with 25 points and the Moultonborough boys edged past Winnisquam 54-51, with Brodie Bacon leading the Panthers with 21 points and Isaac Singleton leading the Bears with 16 points. The White Mountains girls rolled past Newport by a 43-19 score, led by Mackenzie Foss with 13 points and the Spartan boys got a monster game from Karen Smith with 50 points as they beat Newport 90-57. The Gilford girls beat Plymouth 44-26 with Penelope Lewis for the Golden Eagles and Ella Duchette for the Bobcats each scoring nine points to lead their respective teams. The Gilford boys beat Plymouth 62-45 with Owen Hawkins leading the Golden Eagles with 25 points and Turner Oldenburg and Lucas Perkins leading the Bobcats with 11. Tomorrow's semifinals will feature the Newfound boys vs. Moultonborough, Moultonborough girls vs. Laconia and Gilford vs. White Mountains for the boys and the girls.

It was a busy first day at the Mike Lee Holiday Basketball Bash in Farmington, with the Kingswood, Kennett, Prospect Mountain and Belmont boys and girls and the Inter-Lakes and Profile boys all in action. The Kingswood girls beat Franklin 36-31 behind 11 points from Caelynn Blattenberger, the Kennett girls feel to Coe-Brown 60-22, with Sara Boewe leading the Eagles with 10 points, the Belmont girls fell to Portsmouth Christian 55-38 with Bailey Perkins leading the Raiders with 20 points and the Prospect Mountain girls defeated Epping 95-10, with Kourtney Kaplan pouring in 23 points and Leah Gard adding 10 points. The Prospect Mountain boys fell to Epping by a 62-35 score with Colby Whitehouse leading the Timber Wolves with 18 points and Colby Hall adding 11, the Kennett boys fell to defending tournament champion Coe-Brown by a 53-46 score with Owen Robertson leading the Eagles with 11 points, the Kingswood boys beat Concord Christian 66-65 in overtime with Brady Moulton leading the Knights with 25 points and Kevin Hayes adding 12 points, the Belmont boys defeated Portsmouth Christian 70-63 with Brody Ennis leading the Raiders with 23 points and Evan Martinez adding 20 points and the Profile boys fell to Nute 60-56 with Daryion Faustin leading the Patriots with 32 points.

The Lakes Region Holiday Basketball Tournament takes place at Gilford High School and Middle School starting on Saturday. At 11:30 a.m., Newfound girls take on Laconia (high school gym) and Winnisquam girls battle Moultonborough (middle school gym) followed at 1 p.m. by the same teams battling for the boys in the same locations as the girls played. At 2:30 p.m. the White Mountains girls take on Newport (middle school gym) and the Gilford girls take on Plymouth (high school gym) followed at 4:30 p.m. by the same boys' teams battling in the same locations as the girls. All teams play at the same time on Sunday (consolation games in the middle school, semifinals in the high school) and the finals are set for Monday, Dec. 29, with the girls at 4:30 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m.

The Mike Lee Holiday Basketball Bash starts on Friday at Farmington High School (And Henry Wilson School) in Farmington. The Prospect Mountain girls take on Epping (Henry Wilson) and the Inter-Lakes boys take on Raymond (high school) both at 9 a.m., the Prospect Mountain boys (Henry Wilson) take on Epping at 10:15 a.m., the Kennett girls (Henry Wilson) take on Coe-Brown and the Kingswood boys (high school) take on Concord Christian both at 11:30 a.m., the Kingswood girls (Henry Wilson) take on Franklin and the Kennett boys (high school) take on Coe-Brown both at 12:45 p.m. The remainder of the games are at the high school, with Belmont girls (2 p.m.) and boys (3:15 p.m.) taking on Portsmouth Christian and the Profile boys taking on Nute at 5:45 p.m. The tournament continues with a full slate of games on Saturday, Sunday and Monday and the championship games on Tuesday, Dec. 30, girls at 5:30 p.m. and boys at 7 p.m.

The Peter Hall Holiday Christmas Tournament kicks off on Friday at the Ham Arena in Conway. Host Kennett will take on Berlin-Gorham at 4 p.m. and Kingswood will take on Western Maine at 5:15 p.m. On Saturday, Kennett takes on Western Maine at 3:30 p.m., Kingswood takes on Berlin-Gorham at 4:45 p.m., Western Maine takes on Berlin-Gorham at 6:30 p.m. and Kennett takes on Kingswood at 7:45 p.m. The tournament wraps up on Sunday with the consolation game at 2 p.m. and the finals at 4 p.m.

The visiting Profile Patriot hoop teams swept host Lin-Wood in Lincoln this evening. In the girls' game, Profile's Addison Koehler sank 28 points to lead the way for the Patriots in the 50-27 win. Avery Weir added 10 points for the Patriots while Caroline Hiltz led the way for the Lin-Wood with 17 points. In the boys' game, Daryion Faustin finished with 25 points on the night to lead the Patriots to the 51-44 win. Miles Constantine finished with 13 points for the Patriots while Brodie Murray led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 15 points, Evan Bujeaud added 12 and Kyle Weeden finished with 10 points.

Myles O'Keefe had a hat trick and Keller Peacock, James Rogers and Ryder Shannon each scored two goals as the Kingswood hockey boys blanked Laconia-Winnisquam-Inter-Lakes at the Pop Whalen Arena. Michael House also recorded his first varsity goal for the Knights and Ashton Stevens got the shutout in net for Kingswood in their home opener.

At a quad meet at Winnisquam today, the Bear wrestlers swept the day. They beat Prospect Mountain 65-6, beat Kingswood 57-17 and beat Exeter 43-30. Kingswood also lost to Exeter 51-24 and beat Prospect Mountain 58-12. The Timber Wolves also fell to Exeter 60-6.

After celebrating senior Brady Moulton reaching the 1,000-point mark earlier in the week, the Kingswood hoop boys came out and got a 79-69 win over visiting Milford. Thomas Benker led the Knights on the evening with 19 points and Moulton chipped in with 14.

The Gilford alpine girls won the opening meet of the season at Bretton Woods today, skiing two runs of giant slalom. Mckenna Howard led the Golden Eagle girls with a third place finish, just ahead of teammate Lily Bishop in fourth place. Belmont was sixth, led by Eva Ashworth and Newfound was eighth led by Addison Alpers. The Gilford boys were second, led by an eighth place finish by Bode Badger with Newfound in eighth led by Cameron Ehmann and Belmont in 10th led by Ryan Cribbie.

The White Mountains Regional hoop girls started strong and didn't look back, taking a 51-31 win over visiting Newfound. Ninth grader Alyana Whipple led the way for the Spartans with 14 points and Mackie Foss finished with 12 points. Bailey Dow led the way for the Newfound girls, scoring nine points, all in the fourth quarter.
