Starting summer 2026!

Mercer Island Rowing Club is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that cultivates a deeper connection to our environment and community by enabling individuals of all ages and abilities access to rowing.

We set out to bring rowing to Mercer Island. This summer, we did. ✅

Mercer Island Rowing Club just finished our pilot program, and the results speak for themselves: 122 rowers, ages 13 to 73, 92% of them Mercer Island neighbors, camps that filled up and then some — made possible entirely through community donations.

We started this because we believed Mercer Island deserved a rowing program of its own. This summer, this community proved it.

A heartfelt thank you to every family, donor, and volunteer who showed up for us, and to the Mercer Island Parks & Recreation team for being true partners in making this happen.

The journey continues this fall at Herzl-Ner Tamid Conservative Congregation, as we keep rowing toward a permanent home on the island. Here's to the legacy we're building together 🎊

We're thrilled to share that Herzl-Ner Tamid Conservative Congregation has generously agreed to let us use their waterfront space for our September and October programming.

We did it 🎉

Our very first Mercer Island Rowing Club practice is in the books — and it was everything we hoped it would be. Thank you to every athlete, parent, and community member who showed up and made this moment real.

Both our adult and youth summer camps are officially full for this session! If you missed out, don't worry — add yourself to the waitlist and you will find out if a spot opens up.

🚣 Four years in the making — and we are FINALLY here. ⁣

The tent is up. The boats are ready. And on June 22, the Mercer Island Rowing Club takes to the water for the very first time. 🌊⁣

This inaugural season wouldn't exist without the generosity of so many — from our founding members and volunteers who believed before there was a single boat on the water, to Commencement Bay Rowing, Anchorage Rowing Association, Conibear Rowing Club, and Pocock Rowing Club for helping us get equipped and ready to row.⁣

Calling all experienced master rowers! 🚣‍♀️

By popular demand— We're excited to announce our upcoming week-long Experienced Masters Session from 7/20 to 7/24! This is the perfect opportunity to bring our local rowing community together on Lake Washington.

Whether you're dusting off your blade or a regular on the water, join us for a relaxed, fun week of coached sessions, good company, and stunning morning views. You are welcome to join us for all five days or just pop in for a few!

Program Details:
✅ When: July 20th - July 24th
🕒 Time Slots: 5:00 AM-7:00 AM OR 8:00-10:00 AM
📍 Where: Luther Burbank Park
💰 Pricing: $100 for the full week

Eligibility: Open to experienced masters rowers (18+) or those who have completed a Learn-to-Row session.

Mercer Island Rowing Club's Learn to Row program is open to both youth AND adults this summer — no experience needed, all fitness levels welcome.

Picture yourself gliding across Lake Washington in the crisp morning air as the sun rises over the Cascades. That's your new summer routine. ✨

Here's what you'll get:
🌊 Expert coaching on technique & water safety
🚤 Hands-on time with real rowing equipment
🤝 A welcoming community of fellow beginners
📍 Beautiful Luther Burbank Park as your classroom

Sessions run Mon–Fri
👦 Youth (entering 8th–11th grade): 8–10am
🧑 Adults (18+ & entering 12th grade): 5–7am
$350 per 2-week session | Scholarships available 🙌

✨ What an incredible day for Mercer Island! 🚉

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the opening of the Mercer Island Light Rail Station — the energy, the smiles, and the community pride were absolutely electric. This is a moment we'll be talking about for generations. 🙌

And if you haven't had a chance to slow down and take it all in, please do — because the station is home to two stunning sculptures by local artist Beliz Brother that truly deserve your attention. 🎨

At the west entrance, a beautiful cluster of oars suspended above the staircase pays homage to Mercer Island's deep connection to the water. Before the bridge in 1940, the island wasn't connected to land — boats were how people moved: ferries, canoes, sailboats, and rowboats. That history lives right here in our station. And at the east entrance, a second delicate, balancing sculpture evokes the gentle bobbing of a boat on the water. ⛵

Beliz drew from historical photographs and her own life — she swims in the lake, walks along its shores, and has always felt connected to this island. That love shows in every detail.

This station isn't just a stop on a map. It's a gateway — to opportunity, to connection, to a more sustainable future for our island and our region. 🌿

🚨We're thrilled to introduce Alex Barnaby-Brown as the Head Coach of our very first Learn to Row program this summer! 🎉

Alex brings years of rowing experience to Mercer Island Rowing Club — competing collegiately at the University of Illinois, coaching at Lincoln Park Boat Club in Chicago, and most recently serving as Masters Head Coach, Varsity Boys Assistant Coach, and Equipment Manager at Mount Baker Rowing Club.

Beyond the water, they play rugby, do pottery, crochet, and are always scheming new creations in the kitchen. We couldn't ask for a better person to introduce new rowers to this sport we love. 🚣
