Mentor Philippine Martial Arts Institute - Arnis/Kali The Marcial Arnis system is a composite of different Kali styles. A practitioner of Arnis will be taught all ranges of fighting using weapons & empty hands.

The Mentor Branch of PMAI classes are held at Doyle’s American Kenpo Karate Academy at 7272 Jackson St, Mentor Oh. 44060. Dojo phone number is 440-255-6697. The Arnis classes are held Wednesdays between 7:00 – 8:30 & Sundays from 11:00 – 1:30. PMAI Mentor Arnis is overseen

by our systems Founder Punong Guro Tony Marcial. We are all under his organization and subject to his curriculum for all testing. PMAI Mentor Branch tries to bring our Founder to our school once a month. These special classes will always be on Saturdays and everyone is welcomed. There is a separate fee paid directly to Guro Tony for these classes. Classes are delivered by our four Black Belts, with the Head Instructor (Jim Clinton) beginning and ending each class. Having four Guro’s, allows for individual instruction when we break up to work on our Lesson Plans. Arnis doesn’t have dozens of ranking levels like most Martial Art styles. In Marcial Arnis you will receive your Black Sash (black belt) when you test for your 4th Level. Therefore, each level takes a minimum of a year to complete and in many instances, you may be at a level for a few years. This can be challenging as the amount of material at each level can make it difficult to consume it a way for the practitioner to retain the material. PMAI has a specialized format used for presenting the lesson plans. The PMAI Mentor Arnis program has divided each Level into four blocks. Each block has a subset of the Levels material which enables the practitioner to focus on a portion of the material for a minimum of 3 months. This creates space for drills that are important for building skills and coordination. This also creates the ability to “burn-in” the material and develop confidence as frequent repetition is your friend. Once you have demonstrated an acceptable aptitude for the current block, the instructors will move on to the next block in the sequence for your curriculums level.
