Crazy thunderstorms, rising water, and cool temperatures had the fish in a bit of a funk last week. But, that's fishing... Every day on the water is a good day but the best fishing days aren't always the easy ones.

Despite less-than-ideal conditions and some stubborn fish, we stayed after them and found the right one. This beautiful 18-inch smallmouth made all the rain, cold, and extra effort worth it.

The forecast for next week looks much more like summer, and we're looking forward to getting back on the river under some warm sunshine, and putting more fish like this in the boat!

We've still got a few dates available this summer. Give us a call or send a message if you'd like to spend a day chasing smallmouth from the drift boat.

Summer fishing is in full swing, and the rivers are fishing as consistently as they have all year. Warm water temperatures have the fish settled into predictable patterns, which means more opportunities and more action throughout the day.

Whether you're an experienced angler looking to learn new water or someone who has always wanted to try fly fishing, there's no better time to get on the river.

Do you know someone who has always wanted to learn how to fly fish?

Whether they’re completely new to the sport or looking to build confidence on the water, our Foundations of Fly Fishing classes at Red Cedar Fly Fishing are designed to make getting started approachable, hands-on, and fun.

Fly fishing can feel overwhelming when you’re first getting started. Rods, reels, flies, knots, casting, leaders… it’s a lot. That’s exactly why we are offering our "Foundations of Fly Fishing" class.

This beginner-friendly class is designed to give you a solid understanding of fly fishing without making it overly complicated. You’ll learn the fundamentals of casting, gear selection, fly selection, basic entomology "bugs", knots, reading water, and more from legendary instructors Larry Mann and Wendy Williamson.
This is a full day class with 8 hours of hands-on learning and plenty of time outside practicing casting and asking questions.

Whether you’ve never picked up a fly rod or you’re looking to build confidence on the water, this class is an awesome place to start.

All equipment is provided including lunch.

All Woman's Class

We’re excited to offer a special Women’s Foundations of Fly Fishing class on July 18th at Red Cedar Fly Fishing.

Over the past year, we’ve heard from many women who were interested in learning fly fishing and wanted an environment designed specifically for beginners to learn, ask questions, build confidence, and spend time on the water alongside other women with similar interests.

I absolutely love rowing the drift boat. Honestly, probably just as much as I love casting. There’s something about putting clients on fish, reading water, setting up the perfect drift, and spending the day working down a river that never gets old.

But every once in a while it’s nice to take a scouting trip, hand off the oars, jump up front, and fire a few casts myself. Guides like to fish too...
