To my dear students,
I want to express how incredibly proud I am of your accomplishments, especially our new black belts and degree testers. You demonstrated the exact mindset required of a true martial artist: you keep moving forward until the mission is accomplished.
Most people, when confronted with the hardships of life, abandon their dreams and lose their direction. Because of this, I want to share a vital lesson with you.
Throughout life, the past will often bring moments of pain, suffering, and adversity. It is human nature to look back and replay those moments again and again. But remember this analogy: you cannot drive a car safely if you are constantly staring into the rearview mirror.
When driving, you glance at the mirror only briefly to understand your surroundings and see where you have been. But immediately after checking, your eyes must snap back to the road ahead. Life is no different. Acknowledge your past, learn from your current circumstances, but keep your vision focused entirely on the path forward.
In the dojang, when a sparring partner gives you a fiercely difficult time, they are giving you a profound gift. Without those grueling rounds, human nature makes us complacent; we become foolish enough to believe we are already superior, and our growth stalls. That challenging partner forces you to adapt, endure, and overcome. They are the catalyst that transforms you into a superior martial artist.
In this way, adversity is our greatest teacher. Without the hard times, and without the people who test our limits, you would never have forged the powerful, unbreakable, and strong-minded spirit you possess today.
Ultimately, this journey requires an unwavering belief in yourself. As I always say, belief is the most powerful tool you can possess in your life. Through your study of martial arts, you have earned that belief.
Congratulations to you all. I am profoundly proud of the warriors you are becoming. Keep looking forward, and keep conquering.
