Purple Heart Racing weekend recap at Kinross Speedpark. Went into the weekend with a thought process of being in second but found out otherwise we were 5th going in. We made the 5 hour hike me and my father to try and make some noise. So Friday we drove there early in the am and we practiced and found speed. Qualified 3rd fastest of 5 but was within a tenth of the leader. Started 4th in the heat and made it to 3rd. Made a couple more adjustments and wow did it light up. Started 3rd in the feature and finished third after the car came in we were a straightaway back and climbed into a race for 2nd putting down the quickest times of the night in the class with a vet who can make his car wider so we pressed and tapped and tried but just didnt get there. But we got the points needed to capture 3rd place in the series. We got the hang of this car now, good luck to those next year now that we have the time, experience and ideas to be with the fastest of them. Then came Saturday, we were told we could come and play a little just so we didnt make the trip for nothing. We practiced and were found too fast and others found wanting, so they asked us to mount 8 inch tires on 10 inch rims or we could not be allowed to compete. So spent the next 3 hours digging through years old tires and scraps to begin dismounting and mounting up 4 to be allowed to compete. Once we did we got 2 laps to see if it'll work, we found that theyvwere hardened yet from time and use, but still managed to be 4th fastest of 18 cars with used up tread. So we changed some stagger and turned down some fuel flow and prepared for the heat race in which we started 8th of 10 cars. We competed and finally were able scrape off the old rubber and get a heat cycle into the tires and drove up to third banging on the 2nd place cars door after surviving and passing the other cars vying for better spots. Then came the feature and we started 14th and in 4 laps drove up to 7th place only for a car to push up and wide off the track and instead of staying off the surface decided to try and save it and drove back into the pack smoking our car and tire and another car. We drove around announcing downed tire and entered pits to swap a tire on and headed back out but had to wait. Officials moved cone and waved me on under green and i still looked before entering on my way only for 2 laps later being black flagged for entering under green per tracks undisclosed rule. Even with all that was a good time, had plenty of fun, learned new things, raced at new places, and have knowledge for next year.
