We haven’t stepped foot in a tournament complex since 2018. And we never will.

It’s simply not a safe or appropriate format for kids and their families. Kids may enjoy them but that doesn’t make it good for them.

It’s like a green smoothie. On the surface is look fine and healthy but it’s packed with unhealthy ingredients.

While it’s more challenging to execute, the lead format has substantial advantages.

The RIGHT way to throw wiffle balls to kids 🎯

Most coaches grip with 2 fingers like a baseball. Ive learned that doesnt work for most.

Here's what actually works:

⚾ 3 or 4 fingers on the ball. More fingers = a stable ball in your hand. It just seems to work.

⚾ No wrist snap. You can't break your wrist on a wiffle ball the way you can a baseball. The ball is too light. Let the arm do the work.

⚾ Full arm swing. Kids need to see the whole motion so they can time their load. Short arm it and you steal their timing.

⚾ Get on a knee. The ball should come in on plane, just like a real pitch. Game like reps make game like hitters.

Legends Select starts this week. It’s our version of competitive “travel ball” but WITHOUT TOURNAMENTS!

We ran tryouts at all of our Bay Area locations and hand selected the best 9U and 11U players.

We formed 4 teams per each group and they will be playing in a league format with doubleheaders on Saturdays.

By competing internally, we can create our own rules, league format and streamlined expectations which will ensure every kid has a first class developmental experience.

No Sitting around tournament facilities.
No playing against random teams on random fields.
No kids blowing out kids arms pitching on back-to-back days.
No 8 AM consolation games on Sunday.
No winning or losing by 10+ runs.
No stalling games to push it past the time limit.
No, giving up your entire weekends for 8 to 10 at bats.

We’re just so excited to offer this to our families and we hope we inspire other youth providers to create a better alternative for youth players to play competitive baseball.

I know many love the tournaments because it gives parents and their kids something to do all weekend but we all know that it’s not what’s in kids’ best interests as far as learning the game.

Most competitive teams have other competitive teams right in their backyard.

Why not form a league?

It’s not that hard to find a few like minded programs to create a league.

Once kids get to high school in college ball and beyond it’s nothing like tournament ball. They will play in a league format. Every game matters. You don’t just play everybody on a Saturday and then on Sunday you all of a sudden You play to win with your best 9. That’s not real Baseball. That’s not real life.

It’s the first new program we’ve created since we invented SpeedBall and we think it’s gonna be massive and so good for so many young ballers.

3 things I wanted my son to see from watching me play slow pitch softball.

Not one of them had anything to do with how I played.

I could make my son a beast. But only if he wants it. It’ll happen with time and patience.

Some kids need to be pushed. Others don’t. My son doesn’t need much pushing right now.

Took a buddy to reach out to me to remind me to slow down. He’s just 8!

My 8 year old son says he wants to go pro. He does not want to get better at baseball.

2 completely different things.

He will mess around in the yard all day and loves pitching and playing catch. 5 minutes of actual, focused work and he is out. And his swing is literally 2 sessions away from looking completely different. I could have him destroying baseballs.

So here is where I have landed.

I am not going to force it. I have coached those kids and they are gone by 12.

I am also not going to pretend he is fine when I know he could be better.

So I keep it fun, I keep it available, and I tell him stories about all the things I did not want to do that I did anyway.

And now Im just being patient and waiting.

Because when he knocks on the door, it is his. It's his life. His baseball career. Ill be there whenever he wants, and Ill encourage from time to time. But Im not gonna force him.

The game itself will teach him and he'll have to decide if he wants it or not.
