Well our run at the first state title in MHS history came to an end tonight. Fell 57-22 to a Byron team that’s definitely gonna make a solid run at a state championship this year. We definitely played a bit too rushed offensively early. Especially on our shots. Props to them on their ball movement and transition offense. Before the game we talked about just approaching this game as a “we want to go out and just focus on playing our absolute best, leaving it all out there for each other, and just seeing what happened if we did that” I’m proud to say that I 100% did that. Most of our mistakes were just us trying maybe a little hard to make something happen. Down 43pts at half, we could’ve easily pouted and lost by 80… instead we came back out playing hard, and actually “won” both qtrs in the 2nd half. Obviously not trying to put a sprinkle and a poopy cupcake here… just an example of how this team never gives up. Even when the end of their season (and Lay/Gehm careers) were pretty obvious at that point. Went down swinging playing our hardest basketball. Extremely proud of our continued fight til the end.
Davidson had 6pts, 14 reb, 2stl. Beetz 4pts, 3reb, 2stl. Elam 3pts, 13reb, 1stl, 2blks. Diaz hit a 3 and grabbed 3reb. Doyle had a bucket, 5stl, 6reb. Perryman had a bucket and 2reb. Sondy 1pt, 4reb, 2stls. Freeman 1pt(bunch of great strong takes late that just did not go for her), 1ast, 1stl. Lay had 1ast and 1 stl. Baxa, Denk, and Re each grabbed a reb.
Can’t express enough how proud I am to be a part of this team and program…. So coachable most days, 11 wins, 1st postseason win in 5 seasons, slid Hansen into the 2nd most career wins in MHS Lady Trojan history 😬, played so hard, practiced hard, pushed each other, worked so hard to get better EVERYDAY, so many other great things, and just a pleasure to be around and coach. It has been quite a stinking journey… so grea to see it paying off. I want to thank the girls, Coach Gehm, Coach Hughes, and Coach Maddie so much for all of their efforts to make this year such a fun one full of accomplishments. Special thanks to Lay for her 4 years of hard work and leadership. We will definitely miss her. And thanks to all of the parents, family, and fans for all of the amazing support this year! And a HUGE shoutout to my AMAZING wife and kids for all of their support not only at home but in the stands darn near every stinking night! I am confident that this program is NOT SATISFIED… and while will thoroughly enjoy my extra family time, I am excited for the future!
