Hornets Qualify 14 for Division 4 State Meet in Hudsonville

Senior Jack McCaw led the way for the Mendon Hornets Men’s & Women’s Track teams in their Division 4 Regional Meet in Hillsdale as 14 athletes qualified for the Division 4 State Track Meet. McCaw qualified in four events. He finished third in the 100 Meter Dash and the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 11.46 and 23.76. McCaw was part of the 4x400 Meter Relay that placed third and ran a qualifying time of 3:37.29. McCaw was also the Regional Champion in the Long Jump with a first place jump of 21’ 5”. Fellow senior Alicyn Arevalo also punched her ticket to the Division 4 State Meet in Hudsonville in the High Jump where she finished in second place with a jump of 4’ 10”. Senior Dylan Cupp is also heading to Hudsonville as part of the men's 4x400 Relay Team.

Junior Presley Allen is making her third appearance at the Division 4 State Track Meet in the 3200 Meter Run. Allen finished in fifth place and qualified with a time of 12:44.14. Junior Ben Iobe will make his first appearance in Hudsonville as a member of the boys 4x800 Meter Relay team. The 4x800 Meter Relay team of Ben Iobe, Ryder Gorham, Zak Iobe, and Xavior Zinsmaster finished in fourth place at the Division 4 Regional Meet but ran a qualifying time of 8:52.51.

Sophomore Owen Gorham qualified for the Division 4 State Meet in two events. Gorham qualified for the Division 4 State Meet in the 400 Meter Dash with a second place finish at Regionals with a time of 52.43. Gorham also was a member of the 4x400 Meter Relay team that qualified for the Division 4 State Meet. Sophomore Ryder Gorham also qualified for the State Meet in two events. Gorham qualified as a member of the 4x400 Meter Relay and the 4x800 Meter Relay teams.

Also making a first time appearance at the Division 4 State Meet in Hudsonville is sophomore Brianna Heitkamp. Heitkamp will be heading to Hudsonville in the Shot Put where she finished second at the Regional Meet with a throw of 31’ 0”. The final group of Hornets heading to Hudsonville are Taylor Zinsmaster, McKenzie Bakeman, Karyssa Holtz, and Michelle Gomez. This group of girls qualified in the 4x200 Meter Relay by running a state qualifying time of 1:56.61.

The Division 4 State Meet will be at Baldwin Middle School in Hudsonville on Saturday, June 1st.

Mendon Track athletes riding the bus to the regional meet in Hillsdale. The bus leaves at 10:45 AM tomorrow morning, there seems to be some confusion even though we talked about it at practice yesterday and today!

As many know, our Head JV coach, Lincoln Klinger, has been battling cancer for over 5 years. He has had numerous appointments over that span and is currently in clinical trials at U of M. The Quarterback Club would like to host a benefit for Coach Klinger and his Family, Sunday 9/17, to help offset some of his expenses.
