The tournament committee would like to thank you for joining us in our final annual St Patrick’s Invitational Tournament (SPIT)! It is with much thought, reflection and sadness that the Memphis tournament committee made the difficult decision to cease our annual tournament. COVID significantly impacted our league which has now shrunk to about half its size. Our tournament has also seen a decrease from the days it used to have 120 bowlers to less than 80 the last time we held the tournament. Rather than focus on both our IGBO league and the tournament, we felt the best focus would be to continue our efforts to build back our IGBO league.

As we reflect, we are proud of the contributions that the Memphis IGBO tournament has made to the community both in support of the IGBO ideals of Unity, Fellowship, Communication and in philanthropic efforts. While we were never a big money payout, we have averaged a payout that generally more than doubled the prize fund amount obtained from entries. Over the last 15 years the tournament has donated over $40,000 to local charities.

As we gather one last time, March 17-19, 2023, we hope to see and renew the friendships established with prior participants while also welcoming new participants who want to help us celebrate our Final Annual St Patrick’s Invitational Tournament.

Fellow IGBO Tournament Bowlers

On behalf of the 2022 SPIT Bowling Committee we regret to inform you that due to many factors (COVID, sub-par league attendance, the Memphis ICE Storm, etc), we have elected to cancel the 2022 St Patrick’s Invitational Tournament. We hope to resume our IGBO tournament next year and look forward to our bowling friends and family returning to next year’s tournament.

For those of that have submitted your entry and paid, we will be working to refund your money as soon as possible.

We have decided to cancel the 2021 tournament due to covid. We hope to see all of you St Patrick’s weekend 2022. Thank y’all and stay safe.

We have received a few questions about the SPIT Bowling tournament this weekend in Memphis including questions about Covid 19. While we are currently being told that the risk is low, we would like to emphasize due diligence. If you are concerned you can research further information at www.cdc.gov

COVID 19 is spread through large droplet transfer from sneezing or coughing.
What you can do?
Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds
Sneeze of cough into your sleeve or elbow.
Don’t shake hands, elbow bump instead

There is only 1 confirmed case in Shelby County and no deaths in Shelby County.

We are currently not cancelling the tournament based upon the low risk at this time. However, we realize that the choice lies with you. We will be posting updates as we are informed and obtain additional information.
