# # # My Journey with Horses
My passion for horses began at the age of 3, I was 7 when I had the unforgettable experience of riding a horse named Chick ba****ck at my cousin's house. From that moment on, I knew that working with horses was my true calling. At 12, I eagerly rode my bike to a local barrel horse farm, where I cleaned stalls in exchange for the opportunity to ride. I remember impressing the trainer with my ability to ride perfect circles, a moment that fueled my desire to learn and grow as a rider.
As a teenager, I began working at Eagleton Manor, a farm specializing in Saddlebreds and Arabians, where I met Mr. Ed, a mentor who ignited my passion for teaching and training. Under his guidance, I learned the fundamentals of horsemanship while riding a talented older horse named Blue Grass. Despite not having the financial means of other riders, I was fortunate to gain valuable experience that shaped my skills.
I purchased my first horse, Fame, at the age of 16—a challenging horse that taught me the intricacies of training and patience. Later, I acquired my first cow horse, Lil, and trained under my grandmother and Aunt Stephanie, honing my skills in reining cow horses. My dedication to continued learning led me to train under various professional trainers and attend every clinic and event I could find in Michigan. I went on to train many horses.
In 2017, my husband Dave and I established Hand It Down Ranch, a place where I could share my love for horses with others. Over the years, I’ve proudly earned numerous championships and have become a successful trainer, coach, and mentor to many aspiring equestrians.
# # # What We Offer
At Hand It Down Ranch, we specialize in training horses with behavioral issues, aggression, and rescue cases. I have extensive experience working with Tennessee Walkers, Saddlebreds, Arabians, and primarily Quarter Horses and American Paint Horses. My training philosophy revolves around the belief that each horse requires time to develop into its full potential. I focus on creating a solid foundation for horses, whether they are destined for barrels, cow work, roping or the discipline that best suits that horse.
I also offer ride nights where riders can bring their horses to work cattle under my guidance. Additionally, I provide boarding services when spots are available. I prioritize the safety and well-being of both horse and rider, understanding that each has unique personalities and needs. My approach is kind and fair, ensuring that I make the right things easy for the horse while providing a safe and encouraging environment for riders.
