Carole Gerrity was a friend, mentor, cheerleader, and so much more.

An advocate in the equine field, Carole introduced HorseAbility’s Founder, Katie McGowan, to the world of horses in 1989 through an equine gym class and the equestrian team at Molloy College.

Carole was an avid supporter of HorseAbility and its programs – serving on the committee for the Long Island Horse Show Series for Riders with Disabilities (LIHSSRD) since it began in 2006 and one of her greatest joys was working with our campers at Camp HorseAbility.

With her ready smile and her infectious enthusiasm, Carole was always encouraging and celebrating our participants, volunteers and staff. Her generosity of spirit meant our successes were her successes.

Carole was a champion in every sense of the word. We at HorseAbility are so grateful for the time she shared with us – we loved her dearly and will miss her always.

The IHSA's leadership extends their deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Carole Marie Gerrity.

Gerrity was a trailblazer in collegiate equestrian sports. In 1973, she founded the Molloy University (Rockville Centre, New York) Equestrian Team, launching a remarkable coaching career that would span nearly five decades. Gerrity also served on the IHSA board of directors.
