We had a great day this past Sunday celebrating this years Melrose High School Wrestling program during a ceremony at the wrestling room. Former Melrose wrestling captain Rich Corrado started things off with valuable words of wisdom for the boys about wrestling and life. Rich parlayed his excellent wrestling career at Melrose, and later, at Harvard University into a successful career in business as CEO of a major company.

MHS head football coach was also in attendance to talk about the correlation between football and wrestling and how these two sports compliment one another so well. Coach Morris assisted with the unveiling of a plaque housing the Stanford football jersey of former Melrose Heavyweight State Champion Braden Marceau Oliyanka. Braden will go down as one of the greatest heavyweight wrestlers in Melrose High School history. Keep an eye out for Braden this fall as he continues his amazing football career playing defensive lineman for the Stanford Cardinal. Congratulations Braden!

Many former Melrose wrestlers were present for this event which shows how much this program means to them long after graduation. TRADITION NEVER GRADUATES.

Thank you to our five SEINORS: Jack Shea, Charley Hergert, Seamus Moran Olmsted, Scott Santos and Johnny Moraes. You guys have shown tremendous grit and dedication over the last four seasons. Good luck next year!

The Real Moms of Melrose Wrestling (including Wrestling Godmother Shiela!) had a well-deserved night out at Bobby C’s last night to celebrate another great season. The boys and the coaches put the work in on the mats, but it’s the MOMS that make everything happen behind the scenes. Melrose wrestling would not be what it is without these women. Several notables missing from this photo, including Leia Secor, who organized this event (among many other activities that may go unnoticed) all in support of Melrose Wrestling. Thank you ladies!!!

Congratulations to Melrose Wrestling on wrapping up another incredible season with outstanding performances at the High School NATIONAL Championship Tournament. Our wrestlers all battled against the toughest competition in the entire country and many of our guys came away with multiple wins. Thank you to THE LEGEND Coach Tremblay for getting these guys down to Virginia Beach and back for a long, exhausting but extremely worthwhile trip. Congratulations to Senior Captain Johnny Moraes who capped off his amazing high school wrestling career with an incredible tournament performance, including pinning the two-time NY state champion!
This was a great experience for our wrestlers and you can be sure that Melrose will once again be a major contender next year. We have loads of returning starters, kids who have battled back from injuries and plenty of up and coming young wrestlers hungry to get their chance to compete for Melrose!

It was a very long ride, but Coach Tremblay got our Melrose wrestlers to Virginia Beach for the NATIONALS! They’ve all made weight and are ready to eat!! Good luck tomorrow fellas!
