Florida SCTP State Shoot:
I spent a fantastic weekend assisting with the 2026 Florida SCTP State Championship at the Palm Beach County Shooting Sports Complex!
Operated by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), this premier, government-run facility represents an important and exciting partnership for the SCTP. Collaborations like this reflect a shared commitment to conservation, education, and the responsible growth of the shooting sports, and I am incredibly grateful for the warm welcome extended to our athletes, families, and coaches.
The success of the weekend was evident, as this partnership proved to be so mutually rewarding that Florida SCTP has been invited back to host the 2027 State Championship at this exceptional facility—a true testament to the strength of this collaboration.
I’d like to congratulate all of the athletes who competed, and especially the team champions in s***t, trap, and sporting clays. These teams didn’t just win—they earned the right to take home their discipline’s traveling trophy, a symbol of pride that’ll sit front and center at their home range for the next year… just daring the next team to come try and take it.
Under the leadership of Florida SCTP Advisors Wendell Mixon and Joey Berardinelli, the program continues to grow stronger each year. Their athletes are not only developing their skills but are quickly becoming serious contenders in the clay target sports arena.
What truly sets this program apart, however, is the dedication behind the scenes. Wendell and Joey give countless hours to the Florida SCTP, and their commitment doesn’t stop there. They also volunteer their time supporting the SCTP Southeast Regional and spend an entire week each July at the Cardinal Center in Marengo, Ohio—helping host over 3,000 athletes from across the country competing in events ranging from American s***t, trap, and sporting clays to International Bunker and International S***t.
That level of commitment is what makes this program so special.
Please join me in thanking Wendell and Joey. We are truly fortunate to have volunteers of their caliber and dedication helping shape the future of this sport.
And as you can see from these smiling faces… spending time with Mr. Wendell is always a highlight!
