FLORIDA 7v7 COACHES & ORGANIZATIONS — IMPORTANT UPDATE
For the past few years, Florida’s Level 2 fingerprint background check requirement for youth athletic coaches has been discussed, delayed, and extended multiple times. That has understandably created confusion across youth sports.
As of July 1, 2026, the current law requires Independent Sanctioning Authorities to conduct Level 2 fingerprint-based background screenings for coaches who have direct contact with youth athletes. The responsibility falls on the organization—not the individual team. (Online Sunshine)
At 7v7 Elite, we’ve always believed that protecting young athletes comes first. At the same time, we know many coaches, organizations, and families are still trying to understand exactly what the new requirements mean in practice.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing:
• What a Level 2 background check actually includes
• Who the law applies to
• What coaches should expect
• How organizations can prepare for compliance
Our goal is simple: keep coaches informed, protect our athletes, and help the Florida 7v7 community navigate these changes together.
If you’re a coach, team administrator, or organization with questions, drop them in the comments. We’ll do our best to provide clear, factual information as everyone works through this transition.
