Ladyfish always give a great fight!
And rarely get to the boat!
Very skilled at the self release!
I’ve caught as many as 5 on the same cast!
As soon as one throws the hook, another snatches it!

My client, Pete Balfas, brought me a nice section of the newest designs of Norton soft plastic lures.
Great action!
He’s good friends with the owner!

Fishing report 6– 3–26:
Had a great day fishing today with Pete Balbas and his wife Angie.
And she bought him this trip for his birthday, a bit late, since it was in March, BUT… today is their ANNIVERSARY!
Wonderful overcast all day kept us from getting hot. Downside, the overcast turned into rain three times!
Mostly soft and welcoming, but hard and very limited visibility for a bit too.
OK, so we got wet, big deal!😂
Fishing with 10 pound braid, 25 pound fluoro leader, and 3/8 oz jigs they caught 42 fish!
8 different species!
(Yes, we counted the ugly but cool arrow crab!)
They each caught a bonnet head shark. Those guys always bring lots of energy to the fight. And they are SO CUTE!
Angie caught her first ever bonnethead, mangrove snapper, black drum, and ladyfish!
I love it when clients catch their first of anything!
They each caught seven ladyfish, well actually a lot more, but many were throwing the jigs back at us!
Great battles. Lots of jumps and acrobatics.
We saw some manatees and dolphins too. Always a treat in Southwest Florida.
And finally, we fulfilled the most important requirement of any good fishing trip, we came home!
Take care, and tight lines,
Captain Barry

Took Steve and THEo fishing yesterday.
Grandpa was taking Theo fishing for his 12th birthday!
Theo had done a lot of freshwater fishing previously, and a little bit of salt, and has great fishing skills. But today he got to catch several firsts!
Theo got to catch his first ever Sailcat, and first ever sheepshead, as well as his second ever Jack.
We worked the pockets of the mangroves, and the edges of several oyster islands.
We had high hopes of redfish and snook, and did manage to catch two snook. Not giants, but acrobatic at least. They love to jump!
Everywhere we went, we found catfish. Almost seemed like they were stalking us and following us around, lol!
Luckily, we still caught a number of good fish in between.
We also saw a dolphin I call stumpy because of his truncated dorsal fin.
30 fish total, 15 each, dead even!
Six different species, all caught with 10 pound braid 25 pound fluoro leader,3/8 oz jigs, and live shrimp.
We also spotted a beautiful roseate spoonbill. My absolute favorite bird!
They tend to be shy, so we were fortunate that he let us get close enough to get a halfway decent picture.
Of course, we fulfilled the most important requirement of any fishing trip, we came home!
And Theo said that he had a great birthday!
Take care and tight lines,
Captain Barry
