Aging is not about becoming less.

I cannot surf exactly like I did when I was 25 years old. The physical reality is different now. But when I paddle out today, the stoke, the challenge, and the freedom of riding a wave are the same.

I simply have to listen to my body and choose my waves more carefully.

Many people view getting older as a series of physical and professional losses. But aging successfully requires a change in your mindstate. It is about becoming intensely grateful for what you have right now, rather than mourning what you once had. Because I am more selective now, I actually appreciate each ride much more than I did at 25.

Every wave in life eventually ends. That is not a tragedy; it is just the nature of life. The most important question is what you decide to do next. You can either drift aimlessly with the tides of fate, or you can turn your board around and paddle back out for a brand new chapter.

At any age, you have the power to make a new commitment and find a new purpose.

Never believe your best wave is behind you. The next wave may be the best one.
