The Southern Oregon Heat were originally founded as an indoor football team on July 1, 2000, by Sutherlin, Oregon, businessman Kevin Wells, who also played football. The team played their home games at Compton Arena (now known as Seven Feathers Event Center) at the Jackson County Expo and Fairgrounds in Central Point, Oregon in 2001, affectionately called "The Inferno". They finished their lone se
ason with a 1-13 record in the National Indoor Football League. The team were unsuccessful in relocating to Eugene, Oregon, and becoming the "Eugene Mercury" and the franchise folded in 2002. The logo was originally designed by the late Mike Lacey and has since been redesigned by Southern Oregon Signs of Medford. Today, we celebrate the legacy of what the team brought to the Rogue Valley as its first and ONLY indoor football team nearly a quarter of a century after its creation as Mike Summers, longtime supporter of the arena/indoor game, relaunches the brand. Fans, friends and former players and coaches are welcome to share their memories of playing for the original Heat and their thoughts of a possible resurrection in the future...
