FLY FRIDAY - This week’s fly is a “Froggy Bass Popper” from Solitude Fly Co.. This fly is a great option for those of you looking to chase the surface bite and works excellent for both Smallmouth & Largemouth bass. It’s a solid time of year to be throwing poppers as the vegetation has had a chance to grow all summer and it now offers excellent cover for fish waiting on a meal.

Come pick one up and give it a try out on one of the many lakes we have here in the rogue valley. If you haven’t fished much for bass, we’re happy to give you some info on where to start!

As always, If you’ve got a waterway that you’d like to see a fly recommendation for, drop us a comment below.

Get it while it’s still here folks!

Before too long, our lakes will be iced over and most inaccessible. The fall months of September & October offer some incredibly good fishing giving great opportunity to catch fish that are actively feeding before the winter weather arrives.

FLY FRIDAY - This week’s fly is a “Pat’s Rubber Legs”. If you’re new to nymphing for steelhead, you will likely become very familiar with this fly and its variations. Best fished under a large indicator both solo or as a double nymph rig. Pat’s Rubber Legs are great imitators of stoneflies and since stoneflies make up such a large percentage of the diets of fish here on the rogue, it’s a staple in our boxes.

These aren’t only great steelhead flies, but affective in most waterways that have larger aquatic insects found crawling around on the rocks. Try tying them in a couple different chenille patterns to give yourself a variety when out on the water!

Today, Alex goes over the difference between Rio’s sink tips from smaller VersiLeaders to heavy Skagit MOW tips.

If you are looking to get your line sinking on a single hand rod or you’re unsure what tip is needed when swinging two handed rods, stay tuned.

Rogue Spey Clave 2026 -

What a great opportunity to connect with local businesses, learn from industry pros, and cast rods from companies all throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

We want to say thank you to the individuals who took the time to put this event together and those who chose to attend. Jon Hazlett & Dax Messett did a great job gathering and coordinating the vendors who made this possible.

We’re already stoked on next year and suggest that those who didn’t get a chance to attend, put a note in the calendar!

FLY FRIDAY - This week’s fly is a “Lightning Bug (Red)”. We recently had someone ask for a recommendation for fishing the Holy Water section of the Rogue. This fly is a great pattern when throwing an indicator rig both solo or as a trailing / second fly under something like a stonefly nymph. Try anywhere from a size 12 to 16.

This is not only a good pattern for the holy water, but the Rogue River in general. Try it in place of a Copper John or an Ice Cream Cone when nymphing for steelhead as well.

In today’s video, Alex gives us an overview of the R.L. Winston Rod Company we carry here at Rogue Valley Anglers. These rods are an easy choice for someone searching for top of the line gear.

If you’re looking for a rod from a company that values quality and excellence over anything else, stop in and talk with Alex. Lots of these are in his personal quiver, so there will be no shortage of knowledge.

FLY FRIDAY - This week’s fly is a MontanaFlyCo “Rowley’s Balanced Baitfish”. This fly was originally designed as a Stillwater fly, but can do great in all locations that fish are feeding on small minnows or baitfish. Fishing it in a lake? Try under an indicator. Fishing it on the river? Try slowly stripping it near weedy edges.

This is a great option for those looking to fish Klamath lake for Redband trout, Emigrant lake for bass, the South Umpqua, or Pyramid lake if you’re feeling the need to take a roadtrip!
