Last week we conducted our annual summer camp: the JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge. Our kids led cadets from other schools thru 5 days of physical training and 6 distinct training periods:
- The Tower (ziplining/rock climbing/rappeling)
- Water Survival and the Gauntlet
- Archery and Drones
- Leader Reaction Course
- High Ropes Obstacle Course
- Squad Competition on the Conditioning Obstacle Course.

They participated with cadets from 7 other schools organized into 3 platoons of about 20-25 kids. Iva Alibrando was selected as the honor cadet of her platoon and Summer Stevenson, Oskar DeSantis, and Mackenzie McCartan were members of the Honor Platoon. It was a tough, physical week and our cadets crushed it! We ended the week with a moving visit to the National 9/11 Memorial near Shanksville, PA. Well Done, Eagles!

Today we celebrate LET 4 Cadet Tristan Courtney. Tristan was Cumberland Valley’s nominee for the Capital Region’s 2026 Buskey Awards.

A 4-year cadet in JROTC, Tristan was our Headquarters Platoon Sergeant this year. He upheld the same standards as everyone else for 4 years, despite some physical and visual challenges most of us will never face.

We do hard things in JROTC, and Tristan showed us how it’s done on a daily basis. When life’s got you down, we could all look at Tristan gettin’ it done, inspiring us to get up and hustle.

Well Done, Tristan!!

We supported the U.S. Army War College this week by providing the color guard and presenting the colors at the opening ceremony of Jim Thorpe Sports Days, bringing together students (national security professionals) from all the senior service colleges of the Joint Force. It was a beautiful day and our cadets looked sharp.

This past Saturday we executed our Service Learning Project with a big cleanup at Hampden Township Veterans Park. Planned and organized by the cadet leadership, over 30 kids spent Saturday morning divided into 5 teams:
—Monument Cleaning
—Tree Maintenance
—Dignified Flag Retirement
—Gazebo Cleaning
—Weeds/Gravel/Mulch Maintenance

The kids conducted site visits, coordinated with both Hampden Township officials and the Hampden Township Veterans Recognition Committee, requested equipment, and prepared a Memorandum of Instruction for all involved.

We even took the opportunity to assist Boy Scout Pack 279 in participating in a dignified flag retirement ceremony. It was a great day of service in a patriotic cause that fulfilled a community need.
