Re*****on 870 Super Magnum chambered in 3½” 12G

This was one the last of the original 870 shotguns manufactured before Re*****on went bankrupt in July 2020 and became Rem Arms. The original 870 was produced for 70 years from 1950 through 2020. Current 870 production began by Rem Arms in 2021 in LaGrange, GA.

This shotgun was manufactured in March 2018 at the Re*****on factory in Ilion, New York. This shotgun has been Hydro-dipped in Realtree MAX5 camouflage pattern. This shotgun came in the shop to be drilled and tapped for a Sumtoy Customs red dot mount to install a holographic red dot sight. After complete disassembly, I leveled and clamped the receiver in my Williams Gunsight drilling jig on the drill press. I drilled two #28 (0.1405”) holes .730” center to center with a HSS drill bit. I threaded the holes with my 8/40 carbide flat-bottom tap. I used the larger 8/40 screws to better stand-up to the heavy turkey loads the customer will be using. After cleaning the new threads with solvent, I mounted and torqued the Sumtoy Customs mount to 12-inch lbs. and used removable blue thread locker. I mounted the 3MOA Burris Fast Fire 3 red dot sight and laser boresighted the unit at 50 yards. After reassembly, I function checked the shotgun. This unit ready and headed back to the customer for Eastern Wild Turkey hunts in Maine, New Hampshire & Vermont in mid-May.

R***r Red Label chambered in 12-gauge

The R***r Red Label 12-gauge Over and Under shotgun was manufactured in Newport, New Hampshire for 16 years between 1995 and 2011. This particular shotgun was manufactured in late 2006 and has a 411 prefix serial number which makes it a second-generation production run. It features a brushed stainless steel receiver and an integral locking lug for improved strength.
The customer stated that the top barrel would not fire. The R***r Red Label uses a single mechanical trigger to control both the right and left hammers. The top barrel is fired by the left hammer. After removing the butt stock from the receiver, I noticed that the left hammer strut was broken. R***r no longer offers parts for the Red Label shotguns and I was not able to locate the left hammer strut at any of my part’s distributors. I was able to drill the broken piece out of the existing forward cocking lug of the strut and then cut a new strut out of a .125” carbon steel rod. After drilling a .0625” hole in one end of the new strut to retain the hammer spring, the strut was precision Tig welded in place. I compressed the spring and reinstalled the strut assembly in the shotgun. Function check and test fire successful.

They appear real, but one of these is a toy!

As Sheriff, I must speak honestly to our community: purchasing toy guns that closely resemble real fi****ms is a reckless decision with potentially irreversible consequences. In today’s environment, our deputies are required to make split-second judgments to protect lives—both theirs and the public’s.

When a child is holding an object that looks indistinguishable from a real weapon, there’s no time to pause and verify if it’s a toy. Such moments of uncertainty can lead to tragedy, and no parent, officer, or community should bear the burden of a preventable mistake.

This message is not about banning childhood or innocent play. It’s about responsibility. Brightly colored, easily recognizable toys are important—they clearly differentiate imagination from reality. When that boundary is blurred, we put our children at risk.

I strongly urge every parent: be intentional. Know what is entering your home. Talk openly with your children about safety, RESPECT for LAW ENFORCEMENT, and the serious consequences of their actions.

Our mission is to protect this community every day. Help us keep your children safe through careful decisions that minimize their risk of harm.

Wi******er SX1 chambered in 12G

The Wi******er SX1 is a 12-gauge gas-operated, semi-automatic shotgun produced between 1974 and 1981. This particular shotgun was manufactured at the Wi******er factory in New Haven, Connecticut in 1974. It is widely regarded by enthusiasts as one of the finest and most over-engineered semi-autos ever made in the U.S.A. because it was the last Wi******er shotgun constructed entirely from milled steel parts without the use of stamped or plastic internal components. The SX1, unlike its successors (SX2, SX3, SX4) and competitors like the Re*****on 1100, the SX1 features a receiver machined from a solid block of alloy steel. It has a Short-Stroke Gas System that uses a simple, patented gas mechanism designed for high reliability and fast cycling. While very durable, the SX1 has a few common aging issues that owners should be aware of. The plastic recoil buffer in the rear of the receiver eventually disintegrates with age. Shooting with a failed buffer can damage the receiver; modern polymer and/or neoprene replacements are readily available from gun parts suppliers. In addition, the gas cylinder O-ring is a wear item that needs periodic replacement to ensure proper cycling.

This gun came in the shop for an inconsistent cycling issue. After complete disassembly I found the shotgun in excellent condition. I did find the recoil buffer and rubber o-ring missing. In addition, the friction ring set-up was not in the correct order. I’ve included an image of the correct friction ring set-up for reference. I replaced the missing recoil buffer with an updated neoprene buffer and I also replaced the missing o-ring. Function check and test fire successful. Very nice, 52-year-old American made, all steel shotgun headed back to the customer.

Aero Precision M4E1 chambered in 5.56NATO

The M4E1 is a modern AR-15 platform designed to bridge the gap between standard mil-spec and high-end billet receivers. It is primarily known for its user-friendly assembly and aesthetic enhancements. Builders often choose the M4E1 because it replaces traditional roll pins with threaded pins, significantly reducing the risk of damaging the finish during assembly. Key receiver features included threaded bolt catch pin, integrated trigger guard, flared magwell, upper tension screw and a threaded takedown pin detent recess. This M4E1 was manufactured in late 2022 and has a 1:7 16” 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium steel barrel with a Nitride finish. It uses a mid-length gas system.

This rifle came in the shop for complete disassembly cleaning. After disassembly, I found the rifle to be in excellent, but heavily used condition. The rifle was missing the buffer retaining pin spring. I put all the parts in the ultrasonic cleaner at 175° for 30 minutes then dried everything with compressed air. After reassembly, I replaced the missing part and performed a function check and test fire. Nice, top shelf rifle headed back to the truck.

Benelli M2 chambered in 3” 20G

The shotgun came into the shop to be drilled and tapped for a Sumtoy Customs red dot mount to install a holographic red dot sight. After complete disassembly, I leveled and clamped the receiver in my drilling jig on the drill press. I drilled two #28 holes .730” center to center with a HSS drill bit in the top of the receiver. I then threaded the holes with my 8/40 carbide tap. I opted to use the larger 8/40 screws to better stand-up to the heavy tungsten turkey loads the customer will be using. After cleaning the new threads with solvent, I mounted and torqued the Sumtoy Customs mount to recommended 10-inch lbs. and used removable blue thread locker. Customer chose to mount his own red dot. After reassembly, I function checked the M2. This nice Italian unit ready and headed back to the customer for the remainder of Spring 2026 Wild Turkey season.

Re*****on 11-87 Magnum chambered in 3” 20G

The Re*****on 11-87 20G is a gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun known for being one of the "softest shooting" 20-gauges available. Introduced in 1987 as an evolution of the Model 1100, it features a self-compensating gas system that automatically adjusts to cycle both light target loads and heavy 3-inch magnum shells.

It’s important to note that the 11-87 has a barrel seal activator and it’s a critical, though sometimes confusing, component of the Re*****on 11-87 gas system, especially for the 20-gauge and Super Magnum models. Its primary job is to ensure the shotgun cycles reliably when you are using lighter loads. It works by acting as a spacer that helps capture and direct gas more efficiently to move the piston. You should generally have it installed when shooting 2 ¾" target or light field loads. Re*****on officially recommends removing the activator when shooting heavy 3" magnum shells. Using it with heavy magnums will cause the action to cycle too violently, potentially increasing wear, causing malfunctions or breaking the action tube where the charging handle fits. If you’ve taken the gun apart for cleaning, the order of parts on the magazine tube is vital for the gun to function. From the receiver moving forward toward the muzzle, the sequence is Piston Seal, Piston, Barrel Seal Activator (if using light loads) and the Barrel Seal.

This shotgun came in the shop for a drill and tap and holographic red dot sight. The customer chose the Burris Fast Fire 3 and a Sumtoy Customs mount. I drilled and threaded two (2) 8/40 holes to better stand up to the heavy turkey loads the customer will be shooting. I mounted the base using blue thread lock, installed the Fast Fire and boresighted the shotgun at 40 yards.

Nice 11-87 headed back to the turkey woods.

CZ-USA 457 At-One Varmint SR chambered in .22LR

The At-One Varmint SR is a .22 LR bolt-action rifle featuring a 16.5-inch heavy barrel for precision shooting. It’s paired with a brown laminate Boyd's At-One stock with push-button adjustable length of pull and comb height.

This rifle came in the shop for a barrel swap. The customer chose a Lilja .900″ diameter straight cylinder, 26” stainless steel 16T heavy match barrel. I removed the OEM barrel and measured the receiver shoulder to bolt face at 1.250”. The tenon of the new Lilja barrel comes in at 1.200” leaving a difference of .050”. The ammunition the customer will be using has an average rim thickness of .040” so I added a .010” shim to the barrel tenon to take up the .010” of space between the bolt face and barrel face. I installed the Lilja barrel, torqued the barrel retaining screws to the recommended 35” lbs., the Boyd's chassis to 25" lbs. and performed a function check and test fire. The headspace is at a perfect .040” for the rimfire cartridge he'll be shooting.

Top shelf, precision unit head back to the customer.
