I had no intentions of buying a Black Widow. In over 35 years of traditional bow hunting I have never owned one. I don’t recall even shooting one, though I probably have. But at ETAR this little CHX, 53 #, 56” made of black and white ebony, for sale at one of the campers really caught my eye. I took a couple shots with it and it sounded like a .22 going off (well, maybe that is a slight exaggeration.) It had a D-97 string, no silencers and I think the test arrows were pretty light. With a little encouragement from my son Cam and a couple of enablers, I plunked down the cash.
My friend Ron gifted me a used Thunderhorn quiver he had that is a perfect match to the bow. I added a black deer skin grip saddle. The string is a Mountain Muffler by Steve Backer. It’s Mercury 2 with wool muffs and Silent Ridge Silencers. Arrows are Easton Legacy Carbons, with wild turkey fletch. With 160 grain Ace Standard broadheads, 100 grain brass 5 degree tapered inserts and 3 gpi weight tubes they weigh in at exactly 600 grains. This thing is now deadly quiet.
I will be carrying this bow on Safari in Africa in a few weeks! Stay tuned!
