Six Old Geezers

Six Old Geezers Ron "Prune Picker" Ludwig established the Six Old Geezers web site in 1994. It's been a source of striper fishing information for 1000s of fishermen!

The fall 6OG tourney was held 7 October at Willow Springs Marina. Paul Casperson, owner of Willow Springs, hosted the event. Jay Casperson, Amy Casperson and Shelby Wilson put on a great BBQ lunch after the tournament. Eddie Sparks manned the fryers. :)

First place big fish pot was won with two stripers for a total length of 51.25 inches. The big fish pot is for fish over 22".

First place for the 5-fish weigh in was 17 pounds and 5 ounces.

First place was off of C**t Brust's boat.

Second place was off of Jerry Dorsey's boat.

Third place was Steve Thompson and his wife.

We'll do it again next spring!! Stay tuned!!

Another Six Old Geezer tournament is coming up in October!! 14 October...so mark your calendar. Tournament will be held out of Willow Springs Marina. Owner, Paul Casperson, is an awesome supporter of the 6OG and graciously hosts the tournament. No launch fees at all. Willow Springs does not make any money off the Geezer faithful (unless maybe if you want to rent a cabin for that week end....and they are NICE!!)

Camp Cavett was (and still is) one of Ron's favorite events!! Here is your chance.

Hey everyone! Thank you for your continued support with the Cavett Kids Foundation and Camp Cavett!

Camp Cavett will be held at Lake Texoma from July 26, 2017 to July 30th, 2017. We need fishermen and boats! With July 4th falling on a Tuesday this year, the campgrounds bumped us to the end of July. Sorry for any inconvenience, as we’re still trying to get accustomed to the date change.

Fishing days will be out of Catfish Bay:
Striper: July 27, 2017
Bass or anything you catch: July 29, 2017

We expect around 220 campers this year, so please tell all of your friends, family, neighbors, anyone with a boat!

To register, just respond sign up online and I will mark you down!

We will have coffee and donuts at the dock before fishing beginning at 5:00 am. The kids will arrive at Catfish Bay around 6:30 am. Fishing ends at 11:00 am. After fishing, we will have hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone.

We will have snack bags, water, and ice for you to take on your boat. Feel free to bring whatever you wish.

For more information, visit www.cavettkids.org or contact Eric at [email protected].

Camp Cavett is a place where kids battling terminal illness and life threatening diseases can feel normal for a week. 220 kids will attend Camp Cavett this year. The diagnoses may differ – leukemia, heart disease, cystic fibrosis, crohn’s disease to name just a few – and the treatments and outcomes may vary, but a common experience links all campers, creating a unique environment where children hear stories that sound remarkably like their own. Camp Cavett is one of the only places you will witness cabin scar comparing competitions or where finding a prosthetic leg in the lost and found is the status quo. Camp Cavett is a big part of the Cavett Kids Foundation and we cannot continue to help these kids without your support! Thank you very much!

The tournament was a real fun time. Seeing everyone. Listening to excuses. Hearing about the big one that "got away". Really a fun time.

Paul and his family did an outstanding job on lunch. Amy cooked the potatoes, the corn casserole, and green beans and made the pudding. Paul and James did a tremendous job on the brisket and ribs. Onions, pickles, etc. on the side, as well as potato salad and cole slaw!! This would have been a $20 meal at a BBQ place.

Many thanks Paul!!

I stayed in Cabin #1 and it is first rate!

The winds were supposed to be 'light' but as usual, the weather man was wrong. We had slightly higher winds than 'light'. I'd say winds were prolly 12 to 18 or so. But, not too rough to fish and have a good time!!

We had 17 teams sign up for a total of 46 people. And I'd say that is a great turn out as we did not really advertise beyond the 6OG site. Next year, we'll advertise a bit. Maybe have a tournament in the spring once the spawn in over....nothing says we can't have two tournaments a year. [smile]

I believe almost all boats caught fish. Some boats didn't weigh in due to fish size and the resultant laughs that would have been brought at weigh in. [smile] But everyone had fun.

All money collected was paid out: a total of $460

The official Berkley hand-held scale along with the BPS fish bag yielded the following results:

Billy Beavers - 1st place with 7 # 1 oz - $230

Logan Haskett - 2nd place with 6 # 7 oz - $140

Dennis Curtis - 3rd place with 6 # 3 oz - $90

Al Wood - 4th Place with 6 # 1 oz

Clayton Curtis - 5th place with 5 # 1 oz

George Pratt - 6th place with 2 # 11 oz

Charles Miller - 7th place with 15 oz

Austin Pille - 8th place with 12 oz.

Tadpole Marine was kind enough to donate hats and coozies to give away.

All in all it was a great time of fellowship and food!!!

Helen Lening was there and I got to love on her a little bit. She's such a precious lady.

I think Prune Picker, Sunshine and Backlash are proud of the continuance of their love for fishing. We sure miss 'em.

Thanks to all who participated.

I cleaned the fish that were donated. Scotty, we came away with 15 # of fillets. So at 8 oz per person, that will cover 30 folks. [smile]

Six Old Geezers, has long been a bunch of fisherman, on Lake Texoma, who answered the call, in time of need. Operation-Welcome Home, is in need of some fisherman with boats to take some soldiers fishing for one day. November 5, at 7am, Little Mineral Resort, fishermen try to take 82 soldiers fishing in 17 boats. I sure could use some help, and I would very much like the people of Lake Texoma, get behind this event, and show our soldiers a good time, hopefully getting a few fish for their effort of coming here to relax, eat, fish, and have a good time. There are 30 soldiers from Ft Hood; 20 soldiers from Ft. Sill, 22 from Tinker, and 10 from Shepherd AFB. There also might be some older veterans who would like to fish also. It is a one time in a year, that soldiers meet here for such an event. I am blessed to have the VFW 7873, doing dinner the night of the 4th, and again the night of the 5th, with the Elks Lodge 238, doing a barbeque lunch, 1230 at their facility on the lake; Vietnam Veterans Association, providing breakfast burritos, 6am on the morning of the 5th, so you also get to eat free as a helper. Little Mineral Resort, and Tanglewood resort, are hosting the soldiers, at their rooms and cabins, and since I have been fortunate to collect enough money to pay for most of the expenses, my only concern is boats. Reed's Cabinet Shop of Amarillo, is getting the shirts and hats, at no costs, and sack stuffers, will provide the soldiers, some reminders to take home. Call now, I have had my pastor at Georgetown Baptist Church, say a prayer for great weather, so that takes care of that issue. My number is 903-786-3981, and email address is [email protected]. I do not want to have anyone left behind, but right now they are going to be stacked in boats, like cord wood. Thanks JD

To make this event more competitive, five (5) fish maximum can be weighed by each contestant; however no fish over 17” in length can be presented for weigh in. Everyone will have a fair chance at winning since the majority of the fish presented at weigh in will most likely be sand bass.

Each member of the team (including the captain) shall pay a $10 entry fee.
You must sign up before 6:30 on tournament day (Axman will be at the launch ramp until 7 a.m.)

Rods and reels shall be used. Live bait, artificial lures, trolling etc. are all allowed. No scuba diving allowed. You must stay on the boat.
Team members must catch all fish from the boat. No wading or bank fishing.

1. Interpretation of these rules will be left exclusively to the tournament director (Axman). Decisions of the tournament director are final in all matters and are not subject to appeal. Don't want no whiners

2. No one associated with the Six Old Geezers, the 6OG Chit Chat forum or Willow Springs Marina will be liable for any accident or injury to contestants or spectators or for any damage to property. A contestant's entry into this tournament constitutes a release of liability to the 6OG, and any other event sponsor's, their successors and/or assignees, for any such accident, injury, or property damage the contestant may be involved in. Every contestant is responsible for reading and understanding these rules.

Each contestant signing up for the tournament agrees in full to these rules and regulations.

Each contestant, by entry into any of these events, consents to the requirement to grilled and interviewed (and possibly take and pass a polygraph exam) to be eligible to claim bragging rights.

3. This is a boating and sporting team event and is thus limited to fish caught with rod and reel from aboard a specific team boat. Fish must be caught by anglers registered in the competition from the same boat registered in the competition. Fish caught from a different boat, or while the angler is outside the boat are not eligible. All contestants must have a valid fishing license as required by the State. All State game and fish laws must be obeyed. Unless required by law, there is no limit as to the number of rods used, nor is there a limit to the number of people allowed aboard each boat during the competition. The team captain is responsible for the actions or inactions of the team, as it pertains to the 6OG competition.

4. Fish entered must be caught only from Lake Texoma. The boundaries of the Lake Texoma shall be defined as navigable waters to include rivers and creeks leading to the Lake Texoma.

5. Lines in can be as early as 30-minutes prior to Official Sunrise. The tournament scales will open by 12:30 P.M. and all team contestants desiring to weigh fish must be checked in by 12:30 PM, and the scales will close upon “Last Call” by the tournament director. You must check in with the record keeper to be considered "checked in". The tournament director may announce extensions to the check in "last call" time.

6. Trailering will be allowed. All events are a “lines in/Lines out of the water” tournament with a check-in deadline.

7. Participants must take their fish directly to the tournament weigh-in station line after off-loading them from their boat. It is the sole responsibility of each person wishing to weigh fish off-load and present their catch for weighing. It is the responsibility of EACH contestant in the tournament to bring only their largest five (5) fish to weigh.

No fish, of any species, over 17” will be accepted at the weigh in.

Tournament participants are encouraged to release all fish caught over 17”.

The official scale will not be used to cull fish. The captain of the team MUST be present at the weigh-in, or special permission granted by Axman for special emergencies.

8. In case of a tie, the ultimate tiebreaker will be a coin toss. (Thomas Powell is requested to bring a quarter)

9. Any species of True Bass Family (Striped bass, hybrid striped bass, white bass, yellow bass, etc.) may be weighed in for the 6OG Striped bass competition.

10. All fish must be either alive or in fresh condition or they will not be accepted for weigh-in. If a dead fish is presented to the scale, it must be in fresh condition with clear eyes, red gills, firm flesh, etc.

11. The Boat Team with the winning weight retains all bragging privileges and will be made famous.

12. Roadside and/or any other emergency situations that prevent arriving to the weigh-in site prior to the “check-in deadline” are no excuses.

13. Any team receiving a citation from any law enforcement official during the tournament event hours may be subject to a weight penalty of up to 100% for that day of the tournament.

14. Any contestant showing signs of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or who operates a boat in a manner which might endanger others, WILL be disqualified.
