I've always been a big fan of writing things down. From a programming standpoint, it ensures progression as you keep track of the specifics of each workout and build to more every week. From a consistency standpoint, it feels good to tangibly write something down.

It's incredibly basic positive reinforcement, but then again the basics are what get s**t done.

Continuing on the topic of consistency, one of the best strategies I've found is to have a squared away workout partner. Having someone that holds you accountable to the work you have committed to do stops excuses in their tracks. It makes it binary. Either you show up to hit it with that person or you don't. That's also one of the many functions of having a trainer, we just don't do the actual workout with you.

Chris is my oldest client and for the last four years he's been my workout partner. We don't allow each other to make excuses and we push one another to perform every day. If you struggle with consistency, I highly recommend enlisting the help of someone you know is solid.

First lift of the year is in the books! The New Year is the best and worst time for coaches. While it's a good time for business, many of the people that start training approach it from a standpoint of motivation and fall off quickly. They're ready to get healthy in the New Year and use that excitement as a base to get going. The problem is that meaningful changes take time to develop when motivation is a very short lived feeling. That's why when February comes around, many people are back to the same old habits of yesteryear.

Consistency is the foundation of big accomplishments. There's nothing sexy about the process of getting better, it's just executing the same behavior over and over again. As you approach 2023, set goals that excite you, but more importantly have a plan to maintain consistent habits that will get you there 👍🏼
