When co-founder and 22-year office manager Miss Joanne passed suddenly last March, we set up a non-profit scholarship fund in her honor. Each year, a $500 scholarship is awarded to someone at the recitals. The announcement will be in the recital program book! If you’d like to contribute to her scholarship fund to keep the program going and her memory alive, I will attach the link to her donation page:

Recital tip #6: No flash photography/videography. All theaters prohibit the use of flash photography. When students are looking out to the audience from the stage, they can’t see people, they just see complete darkness due to the bright stage lights. When you use a flash towards them, it can temporarily blind them, causing them to lose focus, be distracted, and is potentially hazardous as they can’t see where the stage ends in front of them! Pictures without a flash are permitted and of course pictures in the lobby by our banner and balloon arch are encouraged and the perfect memory to capture!

We have hired a professional videographer, and you will all be emailed a digital copy of both shows, so no need to try to get a bootleg of the performance! Just enjoy the show in the moment of watching your dancer do what they love 💙

Recital tip #5: Trophies and the Grande Finale!

Grande Finale Procedure: After the final routine in each show, a slide show presentation will take place for our 5/10/15 year students as well as the seniors. During these slide shows, all students in the shows should line up in the same hallway they did earlier for their performance. After the final bows and the curtains close, trophies will be handed out (if your dancer is in both shows, ask that they get theirs in the 4:00 show.) Class moms of the younger classes should then come all the way onto the stage to collect your class and bring them back to the dressing rooms to meet the rest of the parents. All students must be present and participate in the finale in order to receive their trophy. The 5/10/15 year students will receive both their participation and 5/10/15 year trophies. All other students will receive one, regardless of the number of routines/shows they are in. Kindly remind them of this :) 🏆

Recital tip #4: Lining up for your performance.

Dancers should sit in the audience until 5 numbers before they are scheduled to perform. At that time, they should line up in the hallway to the left of the theater under the sign that has their routine name on it. If they are in one of the younger classes, the class mom will stay with that class. All other parents should go back to their seats in the audience so it doesn’t overcrowd the hallways. The teachers will then make sure they get to Miss Cami backstage when their group is on deck. The class moms will go back to their seats once the group rounds the corner to head backstage. After the performance, the kids should either head to the changing room to get ready for their next routine, or head back to the audience if that is their last/only routine for the day. Younger kids’ moms should plan to meet your dancer down that same hallway after the performance to get them back to their seats. We will repeat the same process for the grande finale at the end, except you won’t need to start lining up until after the last routine in the show (more about that later!)

Tip #3: Recital Hair and Makeup - and no “extra’s!”

Creative Movement, Pre-School Combo and Hip Hop classes can wear their hair however they’d like. All other classes will do a center part slick back low bun. Be sure to use gel and hairspray to eliminate flyaways, and pin, pin, pin those hairpieces in!

Makeup should be standard stage makeup. Red lipstick, pink blush, taupe/cream eye shadow, black eyeliner and black mascara (or false lashes - required for the Showdolls.) If your young dancer doesn’t tolerate eye makeup, just do whatever you can. The purpose is to make their features pop on a big stage with very bright lights so we don’t want them to look washed out. It’s all part of the show experience! 💄🎭

No extra jewelry should be worn, or any nail polish. Also, no underwear should be worn with costumes that have tights with them. The tights serve as the undergarment. We always say, individuality is only important in life. In a group dance, you should look like the mirror image of your friends 😜

Tip #2: Cover-ups. Performers should have coverups on while in the audience. The theater can be chilly with the AC running in the summer, and we want to keep their muscles warm. We also don’t want to spread glitter, spill food or drinks, or lose rhinestones in the theater seats! Plus, we want the big reveal of their stunning costumes to be on stage and not in the audience 🤩. Robes, DBC jerseys/jackets, or oversized button down shirts work best since they don’t have to lift up over their heads and potentially mess up hair or makeup.
