Think of your outline as the roadmap that guides both you and your reader from the first page to the last.

Before you write your next chapter, ask yourself:

✔ What transformation do I want my reader to experience?

✔ What key lessons or stories must I share?

✔ What order makes the most sense?

✔ What action do I want readers to take after finishing my book?

A strong outline helps you:

📖 Eliminate writer’s block

📖 Organize your ideas

📖 Create a smoother reader experience

📖 Finish your book faster

Remember: You don’t have to write a perfect outline.

You simply need a plan that points you in the right direction.

Every great book has one thing in common:

A clear message.

Before you write another chapter, ask yourself:

👉 What do I want readers to remember long after they finish my book?

Your core message is the heart of your book. It is the truth, lesson, transformation, or revelation you want your readers to carry with them.

Too many first-time authors try to say everything.

The most impactful authors focus on saying the right thing.

Ask yourself:

✔ What problem does my book help solve?
✔ What transformation do I want readers to experience?
✔ What truth am I called to share?
✔ What action do I want readers to take after reading?

For me, every book I’ve written has been rooted in helping others move from pain to purpose, healing to wholeness, and hurt to hope.

Your message matters because someone’s breakthrough may be hidden within your story.

✍🏽 Writing Your First Book Series – Step 2: Define Your Target Reader

Who are you writing for?

One of the biggest mistakes new authors make is trying to write for everyone. The truth is, the more specific you are about your reader, the more powerful your message becomes.

Your ideal reader is the person who needs your story, wisdom, expertise, or encouragement the most. When you understand their struggles, desires, and goals, your writing becomes more relatable, impactful, and transformational.

Ask yourself:

✔ Who will benefit most from this book?
✔ What challenge are they trying to overcome?
✔ What questions are they asking?
✔ What transformation are they seeking?
✔ How will their life be different after reading your book?

Think beyond demographics and consider their heart. What keeps them awake at night? What are they praying for? What breakthrough are they believing for?

For example:

📖 If you’re writing a book about healing from narcissistic abuse, your reader may be a woman struggling to rebuild her confidence after emotional trauma.

📖 If you’re writing a leadership book, your reader may be a professional seeking the courage and skills to lead with confidence.

📖 If you’re writing a devotional, your reader may be someone longing to deepen their relationship with God and find encouragement for life’s journey.

Why This Matters

When you clearly identify your target reader:

✨ Your message becomes more focused.
✨ Your content becomes more relevant.
✨ Your book resonates on a deeper level.
✨ Readers feel like you’re speaking directly to them.

Remember: People don’t buy books because of information alone—they buy books because they see themselves in the pages.
