Very well said.
So many pitchers don’t want to put in the WORK.
And I mean the HARD work that it takes to become a pitcher.
They move past (or ignore) the small things quickly to get to big things as fast as they can, when really, it’s the worst thing they can do.
You see, it’s more fun to work on the “big things” - learning a new pitch, pitching from full distance, gaining MPH.
The little things don’t have as much allure....they’re not as fun to tell people....and it’s often times hard to see a difference as quickly as you’d really like to, especially in a world of instant gratification.
Just like some people want to run a marathon, but they don’t want to put in the time and effort to train for it.
Some people want to take the big vacation, but they don’t want to work the extra hours or save the extra cash to pay for it.
The real journey is in the details and in the hustle of the every day work it takes to GET TO the big things.
The small, little, focused things is where the real work is actually done. It’s what most pitchers AREN’T paying attention to, and it’s really the most important.
It’s truly the difference between average and good. And good and great.
It takes so much more focused energy, patience and passion to pay attention to the little things. They’re tedious. They’re rarely easy. But they’re foundational in success and growth.
They’re also instrumental in your longevity.
When you skip the small things and lose sight of their importance, your limitations hit you a lot sooner. Your growth tends to minimize/stop at an earlier age.
When you dig into the small things, your growth might not seem as quick in the early stages, but they will will propel you like a rocket in later ages.
If you had to choose, would you rather be the best 10u pitcher or the best college pitcher?🤔
What are YOU giving your energy and attention to?
Is it ONLY given to the big things?
Ask yourself when you’re practicing - have you mastered the small thing you’re working on? Or are you bored of the small thing you’re working on?
What is your motivation for moving on?
If it’s because you’re bored, you’re moving on for the wrong reasons.

PS / this is the recipe to be successful at VARIOUS things in life - not just pitching. A job, a career, a relationship, any other sport/passion.
