Inspiration to keep pushing no matter where you are at. Had a bad hole, round, tournament, week?? Keep grinding and learn from Rebecca Cox and others like her.
was an experience I’ll never forget. After having one HORRIBLE hole my first round, shooting a +14 for the day, I was crushed. It was my own fault for not fully understanding the rules by the time I was competing, and making bad decisions in a desperate attempt to save strokes (which had the opposite effect). Round 1, hole 9, I took a 14.... yes, you read that correctly. A 14. On one hole. You best believe I was mad at myself. If I had only taken a par on that one single hole, I would have shot +4. This mistake put me in 29th out of 36.
I didn’t want to let one hole ruin my tournament. I had 3 whole rounds left, and it was entirely too soon to give up. The next round I improved my score by 10 strokes. I still made a few mistakes (took a 7 on 9 this time), and I knew I could do better.
Round 3, something clicked and I was feeling really good about my game. My par putt on 9 spit out at me, but I was happy to have improved so much on that hole. I managed to shoot a -2. This score jumped me 12 spots! I was blown away. Finishing in the top ten was looking more and more plausible.
Round 4, I was prepared for an absolute downpour. 🌧 The women got lucky and didn’t get any rain whatsoever. I thought I’d take advantage of the nicer weather and tried to play as cleanly as I could. With only one bogey, I got the second hot round of the day (behind ) with a -6. I had moved up another 6 spots that day to land me in solo 8th. I’m proud of myself for continuing to improve over 4 rounds and not giving up. I didn’t think I could ever move up as far as I did, but I proved myself wrong there.
Fun fact: I think this might be my first tournament where I have ratings in the 800s, 900s, AND 1000s 🤣😅 consistency is at the top of my list of goals atm. 🌚
Thanks to my sponsors and . It was an honor playing on the Winthrop course and walking the same grounds as so many incredible players. I will be back here one day.
