A great article by Karen again. This should upset every resident. This doesn't create enough job for city officials, and local businesses had to comply, so it's not fair that we try something that is not "RECOMMENDED" in code. The board of zoning appeals easily could have voted in favor because of the benefit to the community. The purpose of the BZA is for the fair consideration of what is best for the community outside the strict interpretation of decades old guidelines.

Our land is in a JEDZ, but it is zoned "GENERAL COMMERCIAL", not industrial. It cannot bring in manufacturing jobs. The land to our east is industrial. The application for a variance was on the building material only, not on how much payroll taxes can flow into the township. It is already a permitted use on this plot.

What else can go here? A car wash, daycare facility, body shop, banquet hall, dance studio, etc. None of these will have a giant payroll. "The General District provides for businesses which serve a regional market" per code. This is exactly who we are, a business that will serve AW! Seniors, student athletes, and foster a healthier community through socialization and athletics.

We are sad to announce our variance to allow a sport dome was denied last night. Powerful local leaders pushed regulation compliance over community. We will regroup, and push forward. We have the land, and look forward to conversations on how to continue our mission. It's sad considering how many families have enjoyed sports in Rossford's dome for almost 10 years. Monclova Township Administration prefers residents leaving the area for recreation rather than being flexible on building code simply because it doesn't comply with decades old approved materials. We didn't lose last night, the AW community did. We now have to focus on what regulations permit, and a business model that will work. A dome, economically, would have allowed for helping youth sport athletes and free amenities for those to all to enjoy.

We welcome any suggestions on how to continue our on mission of providing healthy recreation to AW area. A pickleball facility will still happen here, we have a path for that despite our denial last night. The use is already approved, so we will move forward on a new design for that and get it built for sure.

We are disappointed. We wanted to build something for everyone....

Just for our followers, a sneak peak on what we are about to release. All domes in HD with beautiful landscaping, outdoor spaces, and new spaces based on feedback. Shuffleboard, (more)cornhole, kids playground outside other domes....we are listening to you!!

What are people saying about the proposed Paddle Dome?

"I think this would be great in Monclova. Current pickleball space is limited and there’s no indoor space dedicated to pickleball nearby. In addition to adults, pickleball seems to be extremely popular amongst high school and junior high students, so I’d expect the facility would be frequented by many. Additionally, overall demand remains high for indoor practice space for baseball, softball, volleyball, etc. I think all of the stated uses of the property (including potential restaurant) would be a great addition to the area. I would much prefer a facility like this over additional manufacturing, industrial, etc. being built in the area."
