Why:
Improving dietary fiber and micronutrient content to your diet contributes to better health. This is a fun habit to work on because you’re really focused on adding in foods you like, rather than taking anything away!

Chewing more/different foods is also helpful for people who struggle with overeating - the calorie density of fruits/vegetables tends to be much lower than processed foods, and the nutrient density is much higher. Win/win.

How:
Keep it simple and increase what you're already eating to a few times per day. Only like 3 different fruits and veggies? No problem. Eat them twice in a day. You can alternate between eating them raw, roasting or steaming veggies, putting fruit into a mixed fruit salad, and eating canned as well.

Goal - Move toward eating either 1 fist size portion (vegetable) or 1 cupped hand size portion (fruit) 5x each day.

Years of thinking about food in a restrictive manner ("I can only eat these foods in these portions at these times") can leave you stuck in a cycle that's not fun to try to break ... one.more.time.

Consider trying a different approach: adding in, rather than taking away. There are obviously limits if you have a goal such as weight loss (total calories do matter), but a shift in mindset can really open the door for sustainable change.

If you really enjoy eating fruit, consider setting a goal to pack two fruit items for your workday, or have an apple with your breakfast and take a banana for your 2pm carb craving. Maybe you still hit the vending machine or snack table in the break room, but there's a good chance you'll realize you can pass it by, even a few times a week, when you have a good option with you.

You might be surprised that doing this for a week gives you the satisfaction of success and the desire to try stacking in another good habit.

Deciding to make a change isn't tough -- but the follow through certainly can be. If you have tried to make changes in your habits and lifestyle before and didn't see success, it can be even harder to push through on your own. A great trainer will keep you focused and accountable and will help make the decision to show up a lot easier. Joining a great gym means joining a community of trainers and members who want to see you succeed.

We all want results yesterday

We try lots of things to get the quickest return possible, even though we know it’s not the best for us

That mega restrictive diet 10x more likely to make things worse in the long run

That super hardcore workout program is 10x more likely to get you hurt

We do better at Hoffman Fitness.

You’ll leave (under your own power) feeling energized and better than when you come in.

You’ll focus on fueling your body and not restricting from it.

As it pertains to the general population (which includes myself), the three main tools for looking, moving, feeling, and performing better are featured here. They all work in balance together and aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, using them for their intended purpose can dramatically improve your results

Nutrition is the #1 driver in the calories in/calories out equation. You can manipulate calories in significantly easier than burning extra calories off.

One of the many uses of strength training (the one we see the most often outside of moving better) is preserving lean tissue (muscle). This is where we get the “toning” - 1. nutrition to create a deficit and 2. strength training to build/maintain/emphasize the muscle.

Cardio rounds it out with the major emphasis of improving heart and lung function so that you can move more to get the most health benefits.
