Hi! Head on over to and stay up to date on gym happenings, get some great info on fitness, nutrition, and a strong lifestyle. The merge between SIA and has resulted in our coaching-only gym (only one in Mattoon!) having services to meet all needs - customized programming to do off hours in the new studio space, at your preferred gym, or getting coached in-person in 1-1 or semi-private personal training or group strength & conditioning classes.

Years of thinking about food in a restrictive manner ("I can only eat these foods in these portions at these times") can leave you stuck in a cycle that's not fun to try to break ... one.more.time.

Consider trying a different approach: adding in, rather than taking away. There are obviously limits if you have a goal such as weight loss (total calories do matter), but a shift in mindset can really open the door for sustainable change.

If you really enjoy eating fruit, consider setting a goal to pack two fruit items for your workday, or have an apple with your breakfast and take a banana for your 2pm carb craving. Maybe you still hit the vending machine or snack table in the break room, but there's a good chance you'll realize you can pass it by, even a few times a week, when you have a good option with you.

You might be surprised that doing this for a week gives you the satisfaction of success and the desire to try stacking in another good habit.

Protein is necessary for almost every metabolic process in the body. We want to preserve lean mass (bone and muscle) and feel satisfied after eating. It’s simple to measure (about 1 palm per meal for women and 1-2 for men).
How:
Don't think you have to throw everything you're doing out the window:
What proteins are you currently eating? Can you eat more of them each day? Or pick a slightly healthier option?

Pick a protein to include each time you eat. If you normally have a carb craving at 2pm and eat a sleeve of crackers, add some good deli lunch meat or a protein shake since you’re already eating.

If you're not a "macro tracker" and aren't sure where to start, simply use your palm to measure (about 1-2 servings 3-5 times per day), or you can read labels and shoot for over 12g of protein (preferably more like 20!) each time you eat. We LOVE seeing our happy members' posts! Kylie has gotten so much stronger, and her technique gets better every single class. The sky is the limit! It doesn't take more than 2-4 hours per week to see the changes you've been wanting, but it does take consistency. Way to go, Kylie!

… … we should talk. Recovery days quickly turn into “active recovery” which is one.short.step away from “just a light workout” … gateway drug to redoing Open workouts 😂

Just remember, recovery is as important as the work you do in the gym if you want your hard work to translate to gains. Recovery doesn’t have to mean bingeing on junk food and being totally sedentary; it might look like doing some mobility, drinking and eating foods you enjoy in moderation, and going for a leisurely walk. And yes, some days, we all need to just turn it all off and splurge a little 🎂.
