The Dojo Martial Arts - Reminder: No classes this weekend. We will all be up in Dayton at the Ninja Gathering Seminar. This event is sold out! If you are interested in driving up on Friday for training with Sensei Stevens on Bo and Sword, see Keith this week to carpool. If you need a ride on Saturday morning, meet us at The Dojo. We leave promptly at 7:30 AM. The first class session begins at 8:45 AM

We will be open on Halloween, October 31st. Kids, come train in your costume if you'd like. We'll have a fun day of games, snacks, and candy.
Adults can dress up too. Bonus: Bring a buddy to class for free!

I have had the privilege of learning martial arts from Mr. Norcross, so I was especially interested in reading "The Musashi Code." I found that this book goes well beyond martial arts—it is really about developing discipline, clarity, self-awareness, and the ability to stay calm when life gets difficult.

What I appreciate most about Mr. Norcross’s approach is that he doesn't present Musashi's philosophy as something confined to the past or the battlefield. He connects those principles to challenges we all face today—stress, distractions, difficult decisions, pressure, and the tendency to simply react to whatever is happening around us.

The ideas of "Fudoshin, Mushin, and Zanshin" especially stood out to me. As someone who practices martial arts, I can see how these concepts apply directly to training, but the book also makes it clear they are equally valuable outside the dojo.

I particularly liked the emphasis on creating "your own personal code". Rather than simply telling you what principles to follow, the 12-week format encourages you to examine your habits, challenge yourself, reflect on your actions, and ultimately develop a code that you can actually live by.

The morning and evening practices, along with weekly challenges, make this much more practical than a typical philosophy or self-help book. It is something you can work through and put into practice rather than simply read and forget.

Having Mr. Norcross as a martial arts teacher has given me an appreciation for the principles behind the training, and "The Musashi Code" provides a deeper perspective on many of those same ideas. A thoughtful, practical, and inspiring book for anyone interested in martial arts, Japanese philosophy, personal discipline, or simply becoming more focused and intentional in life."
