DoubleStar Equestrian is welcoming new horse and rider pairs to our program this summer!

With a focus on correct biomechanics training, the attention to detail we provide in our lesson and training program will ensure positive results.
This is an ideal atmosphere for young horses starting their under saddle education, riders looking to connect with and understand their horses on a deeper level, or competitive riders to gain better guidance in managing their performance horses.

We are welcoming to a variety of breeds and disciplines, though have a particular fondness for Arabians and half Arabians, main ring, dressage, western dressage, and all around performance horses.

Please call 248-860-8651 to schedule a time for a farm visit and to discuss how you and your horse will thrive in our program!

I cannot say enough positive things about working with Jaime Nutter to revamp our arena. He worked his tail off on this project that expanded into a whole additional day to ensure every aspect of the job was complete.

We didn’t have the best material to work with, even dirt and sand has a lifespan, and we’re definitely at the tail end of ours. But his thoughtful strategy and attention to detail ensured that when it’s time to come back in for a major overhaul, things are set up correctly.
If you have work to do on your arena, Jaime is your guy!! He’s knowledgeable and patient and fair!! I can’t wait to ride in this beauty today, even if I don’t want to mess up how pretty it looks 🤩

It’s been a little quiet around the farm this spring but we’re gearing up for some BIG improvements this year.
After our mega drainage project last fall, we’re finally able to resurface the footing in our arena and re-level everything! This is just step one, while the big overhaul will hopefully come later this year with all new sand for the indoor.

After the completion of our client tack room last winter, the viewing lounge is getting a remodel and becoming a true lounge for clients to be able to sit with a cup of coffee or tea and relax and warm up. This will be such a nice addition to the barn, and I’m mostly excited at the prospect of decorating it.

And finally, our last hopeful project for the year will be fencing in the last remaining field to create one final pasture. Having more space to offer rotational turnout for the horses will allow our other fields more time to rest. I’m also especially excited at the prospect of letting the horses graze this field because it will cut my lawn mowing time in half.

All of these improvements are happening as we also are welcoming new clients to the farm. We have one stall open currently for training, marketing for sale, or board with lessons. Please contact to set up a farm tour!

Our aspiring equine photographer did a mini shoot last week during one of my lessons and captured it perfectly! Indoor arena lighting challenges and all, it’s so neat to see a lesson from this angle.

Thank you Paige Daniels for these images!

If you have an equine event or moments coming up you’d like to capture, contact Paige! She’s very interested in gaining more experience and meeting more horse people!

It’s just so tough being orange.

When screaming your head off for thirty minutes does not draw the boss lady’s attention away from circling the horses over obstacles, drastic measures must be taken.

Farm and livestock owners across Michigan have been suffering this weekend. Everyone who tends livestock is feeling the deep freeze set into their bones and buildings as they fight negative degrees to ensure their animals have access to clean, unfrozen water, fresh food and warm bedding.

And while many may continue to curse and question life choices, and be weighed down by the depression that so easily accompanies this time of year, I have miraculously found myself with an unending level of gratitude. I’ve been pondering this unnatural response to winter all weekend and think I’ve finally come up with the best understanding.

After almost ten winters at this farm, experiencing many different degrees of awful, I’m grateful that I finally feel like I have the recipe for survival.

I’m grateful for the experience and knowledge on how best to prepare and manage with the frigid temps we’ve received this weekend.

I’m grateful for water hydrants that turn on when requested, as well as machinery.

I’m grateful for barn staff that shows up to work despite terrible road conditions and added work from routines being altered.

I’m grateful for neighbors who’ve stopped by to lend a hand with snow removal when they saw me struggling to do it myself. And friends who had the expertise to advise me on best practices for my tractor to ensure it doesn’t quit on me.

I’m grateful for geriatric horses that have continued to eat, drink, and p**p while I’m sure they are stiff and uncomfortable being inside for multiple days in a row. And even thankful that the rest of the horses miraculously are not throwing hissy fits for the same reason.

Most importantly, I’m relieved to have felt a strong sense of self-assuredness that I knew I could handle anything this polar vortex had to throw at us. After almost ten years, I never panicked, lost sleep, or worried if I should be doing anything different. I just switched into survival mode and made it through the weekend with hydrated horses and stir-crazy barn cats.

Like most barns, lesson horses would come and go in our program. But almost none of them left, and then came back multiple times. Cuervo was a horse I was willing to make an exception for. For years it felt like I shared custody of this horse, only having him for a few months in the summer to fill in for lessons and show season.
And he was a seasoned pro, you don’t earn the nickname Golden Boy just because of your color.

Cuervo came back to DoubleStar two years ago when he needed a permanent home and I knew just the person to help transition him into his golden years. Because you see, Cuervo was just half of the story. The other half was laid to rest five years ago when we lost his best friend Lucky. And who better than to see Cuervo through the rest of his days than Lucky’s loyal and loving owner, Anna.
To be fair, she didn’t have much of a choice. My “emotional bull in a china shop” tactics essentially told her that Cuervo needed her, and after a few years out of the barn, she needed him more.

It had been an absolute honor being the final stop for this boy after spending his entire life dedicated to teaching young riders. He’s served as a trusted mount in more lesson programs across Michigan than I can count, as well as years as an ISHA team horse for both MSU and Albion. When winter became too much for him, the decision was made between his owners and myself that it was time to hep him cross the rainbow bridge. With a mouth full of poptarts and may hugs, we thanked him for his years of service and laid him to rest last week.
Although if heaven is just a giant pasture, I know this boy won’t be resting. Because Lucky has been waiting five years for him to join him so they can once again rein havoc and play Wild Stallions of the Cimmeron.

Rest easy, Golden Boy. And say hello to Lucky for us. 💛🍀

As we begin the new chapter that is 2026- The Year of the Horse, I can’t help but really hope it’s more of a Lilly and less of an Ally kind of year.

I think we would all appreciate some slow, steady, dependable months ahead rather than that red mare energy.
