STEPtember crew — here’s your reminder that your steps are doing WAY more than burning calories. 👟

Especially after 40.

As we move through perimenopause and menopause, changes in estrogen can affect body composition, insulin sensitivity, muscle and where we tend to store fat. One of the simplest tools we have to push back?

MOVE. OFTEN.

Walking helps your muscles use glucose for energy, supports insulin sensitivity, increases daily energy expenditure, supports cardiovascular health, helps preserve mobility and can even be a powerful tool for stress regulation.

And here’s the part I really want you to hear during this challenge:

Don’t save all your movement for one big walk.

Your 30–45 minute morning walk is AMAZING. Keep it!

But then… keep moving.

👟 10 minutes after breakfast
👟 Walk during a phone call
👟 Take the stairs
👟 Park farther away
👟 10 minutes after dinner
👟 Hop on the walking pad during Netflix

Those little exercise “snacks” throughout your day break up long periods of sitting, and walking after meals is especially helpful because your working muscles can take up glucose-helping blunt that post-meal rise.

This is why I want STEPtember to become more than a challenge.

We are building a lifestyle.

You don’t need another extreme plan. You need simple habits you can repeat at 46, 56, 66 and beyond.

So keep posting those walks. Keep getting those steps. Keep finding tiny pockets of movement.

Because every single one is a vote for the woman you’re becoming.

STEPtember check-in: How are YOU sneaking more steps into your day? 👇🏼

Twenty-six years together, and I’m just now doing the math on how many versions of me this man has been married to. 😂

Four pregnancies. Four postpartum seasons. And now perimenopause while our girls navigate puberty. It’s a lot happening under one roof!

I look at him sometimes and think… what must it be like to get ready without wondering which pants fit this week? 🤣

Ladies, if you’re in this season with me, what’s one thing you wish your husband understood about perimenopause? Let’s hear it. 👇

30 grams of fiber really isn’t as complicated as it sounds, right?

Depending on the size of the sweet potato and avocado, this adds up to roughly 28–32 grams.

And here’s why this matters: 95% of Americans aren’t getting enough fiber. That affects so much more than digestion. It can impact your blood sugar, cravings, mood, brain health, skin, weight, hormones and how you feel every single day.

You don’t need another extreme diet. You need to give your body more of what it was created to thrive on. Whole foods. Simple choices. Consistently.

At first glance, this looks like eggs, toast, fruit, and milk, but let me show you what’s really on this plate. 👇🏼

🍞 This isn’t just any toast. It’s Hero Bread seeded bread with an impressive amount of fiber and protein. One consideration: it does contain gluten, so choose an option that works for your body.

🍳 Tear a hole in the center of the bread, add one whole egg plus one egg white, and fry them together. Finish it with flaky Maldon sea salt—trust me, it takes it to the next level and brings back all the childhood egg-in-a-hole memories!

🍑 A nectarine adds natural carbohydrates, fiber, antioxidants, vitamin C, and plenty of flavor.

🥛 And the unsung hero? Twelve ounces of fat-free fairlife milk, adding about 21 grams of protein! You could absolutely use 2% if you need more dietary fat.

Altogether, this simple breakfast provides approximately:

✨ 38g protein
✨ 36g carbohydrates
✨ 8g fat
✨ 14g fiber

Starting your day with 30–40 grams of protein can help you feel fuller longer, support muscle and metabolism, steady your energy, and reduce the blood-sugar roller coaster that can leave you tired, foggy, and craving more food.

Pairing protein and fiber with carbohydrates slows digestion and helps create a steadier glucose response. And no—one breakfast doesn’t magically cause fat loss. But meals that support fullness, preserve muscle, stabilize energy, and make it easier to remain consistent absolutely support fat-loss goals over time.

Front-loading protein can also be especially helpful if you’re under a lot of stress. Eating a balanced meal rather than running on caffeine and cortisol signals to your body that it is safe, fueled, and supported.

Don’t consume dairy? Add chicken-sausage links or increase the egg whites instead.

This is what a lifestyle looks like: finding simple foods you enjoy, keeping them on hand, and learning how to combine them in a way that supports your body. Because who doesn’t love eggs and toast?

Bonus: Take a 10-minute walk after eating to further support digestion, blood-sugar regulation, energy, and mental clarity.

How amazing is this?! 🤯

A 2026 study followed more than 5,400 women between the ages of 63 and 99—and the women with the highest strength levels had about a 30% lower risk of death than those with the lowest strength levels.

Even when their overall activity levels were similar, the stronger women were more likely to live longer.

Ladies, this is why I will never stop talking about strength training—especially in midlife. I am preaching to myself.

We aren’t lifting weights just to change how our bodies look. We are training to protect our brains, hearts, bones, mobility and independence. We’re building bodies that can carry us into the next several decades strong, capable and fully engaged in the lives God has given us.

It is never too late to begin and you do not need hours in a gym. You simply need to start with the next right thing and stay consistent. 💪🏼
