The Barnes County North Clay Target Team proudly represented North Dakota at the 2026 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship in Mason, Michigan. Athletes who represented the team were: Cooper Haugen (BCN), Tucker Suhr (Griggs Co. Central), Thomas Jewett (BCN), Braxton Weller (BCN), and Lucas Ames (BCN). Coaches who accompanied athletes were Head Coach Al Goehring, Coach Brian Suhr, and Coach Jen Jewett.

The level of competition was exceptionally high, with thousands of athletes from across the United States participating in one of the largest youth shooting sports events in the country. Despite the pressure, the team remained focused and supported one another throughout the tournament.

Recap of Nationals: To prepare for Nationals, Cooper, Tucker, Braxton, Thomas, and Lucas shot over 260 rounds of trap, That’s over 6,500 individual sh***un shells/clay targets!

Braxton shot his first 25 straight during practice days before Nationals competition!

The team competed in the Annie Oakley competition at Nationals. Nearly 400 individual athletes competed in and both Tucker and Thomas won their initial rounds to advance to the championship round. Both did their best, but were eliminated. We were so proud of them and they were all smiles!

On Team qualifier day, the team was assigned to shoot two 50-target sessions (100 total) for Friday’s Qualifying Round. Only The top 80 team scores qualified to compete in Sunday’s Championship Round. Although the team didn’t qualify in the top 80, Tucker shot a 25 straight, Cooper shot his very first 25 straight, and the team as a whole shot some of their highest individual round scores.

The National Championship provided opportunities far beyond shooting scores.
The team experienced one of the premier clay target facilities in the country, learned from observing elite youth shooters, made lots of time for team bonding, built memories that will last a lifetime, and represented their school and community with integrity.

This opportunity was made possible through the support of:
* Barnes County North Clay Target Team Board
* Coaches
* Parents and families
* Community donors
* Local sponsors
* Volunteers

Although scores matter in competition, the greatest success came from representing Barnes County North with professionalism, sportsmanship, and pride. The 2026 National Championship marks an important milestone in the growth of the program and sets the stage for continued success in the years ahead.

Congratulations to the Barnes County North Clay Target Team on an outstanding National Championship season and for proudly representing North Dakota on the national stage!
