RICE Tae Kwon Do - Mason City

RICE Tae Kwon Do - Mason City RICE Tae Kwon Do teaches self-defense techniques and can increase physical ability, flexibility and endurance. RICE TKD is affiliated with Cyclone Martial Arts.

Martial arts is not just for adults and it goes beyond physical fitness. Our curriculum will help children acquire focus, discipline, self-confidence and respect for others and their surroundings. We believe in Taekwondo's ability to help anyone reach her or his potential. We teach a traditional style of Taekwondo in modern, creative ways, masterfully interwoven with practical techniques that offe

r matchless skill, physical fitness and discipline to today's student. Educational objectives of Taekwondo are to develop an appreciation of Taekwondo as a sport and as an art, to achieve physical fitness through positive participation, to improve mental discipline and emotional equanimity, to learn self-defense skills, and to develop a sense of responsibility for one's self and others. Our leaders include Grand Master Yong Chin Pak, Grand Master Ron Rice, Master Matt Hamann and Master Lee Shafer.

Cedar Valley Taekwondo and RICE Tae Kwon Do were happy to be part of the Healthy Kids Day at the Mason City Family YMCA!

A few of our students demonstrated the skills they’ve been working hard on in class. We love opportunities like this to let our students share their passion for Taekwondo and represent our PAK Family clubs in the community.

Thank you to the Mason City Family YMCA for hosting such a great event!

A new chapter is ahead!

Cedar Valley Taekwondo – Mason City is transitioning to RICE Tae Kwon Do on June 1, 2026, under the leadership of Master Lee Shafer and Master Tom Brotherton.

Both Cedar Valley Taekwondo and RICE Tae Kwon Do are proud Pak Family schools, guided by Grand Master Yong Chin Pak and Master Matthew Hamann.

Pictured are some of the leaders who have shaped and will continue to support this program:

Dear Students,

I wanted to share an upcoming opportunity that I think would be especially valuable for many of you as you continue to grow in your Taekwondo journey.

On Saturday, May 2, there will be a Leadership Conference hosted by the State of Iowa Black Belt Association (SIBBA). This event is designed for students who are stepping into leadership roles—helping with warmups, mentoring others, assisting in class, or preparing for future instructor responsibilities.

This is a great chance to learn beyond the dojang and gain insight from experienced professionals in areas that support both martial arts and everyday life.

Sessions will include:

Nutrition and recovery
Real-world self-defense considerations and legal perspectives
Muscle function, stability, and effective stretching techniques

Event Details:
📍 Location: The City Church of Ames
2400 Oakwood Rd, Ames, IA 50014

🕣 Check-in: 8:30 AM
🕘 Sessions: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

💲 Cost:

Free for SIBBA members
$40 (non-members, in person)
$20 (non-members, virtual option available)

This seminar is open to brown belts and above, and I strongly encourage those of you who are interested in leadership and personal growth to consider attending.

Hope some of you are able to attend this excellent training opportunity.
