Hello everyone. We are still missing 2 birds from the break-in that happened in April. Cubbie the peregrine falcon, and Walter the great horned owl, both imprint birds. Cora the red-tail is still on property self hunting. Thank you for the continued care and support ❤️❤️

Some falcons scream for breakfast. SladKey prefers to dance for it. 🕺🦅
Every morning starts with a weigh-in, and apparently today's scale session required a full disco performance. Weight check complete, groove approved. ✨

"Pose, pretty." ✨ Koshka: Say less. 🦉
Serving looks, stealing hearts, and proving once again that she's the star of every photography class.

Islay is just beginning her molt, and yesterday she had a few damaged tail feathers imped after being broken during last month's break-in.
Today, she reminded us exactly what kind of falcon she is. One hard-hitting flight to the glove and she knocked the imped feathers right back out. 😅 Thank goodness for the molt happening
And if you're wondering about that loud slap in these clips—that's not editing. That's Islay landing on the glove.

*Imping is the process of repairing a broken feather by attaching a donor feather to the remaining shaft, allowing a bird to regain function while waiting for a new feather to grow in naturally.

Looks like Islay has other plans. Such is life with a lanner. 🦅

How is this the same little falcon we brought home in April? 🥹🪶
Baby Rafe is all grown up, strong, and nearly fully feathered (peep the head floods he still has). Watching him pump those wings and prepare for what comes next is a reminder of just how fast these birds develop.
It feels like yesterday he was a tiny downy chick, and now he's becoming the incredible saker falcon he was meant to be.
They grow up way too fast. ❤️

Hot days call for a cool mist 💦
Koshka was absolutely loving getting lightly misted with the hose during one of our hotter days. At only 10 months old, she’s still experiencing so many new forms of enrichment — and apparently being pampered is one of them 🦉☀️
Birds of prey can benefit from opportunities to cool down during warm weather, and Koshka made it very clear she approved of her little spa moment 😂
Koshka means “cat” in Russian (кошка). It’s the feminine form of the word, it translates to “female cat” or just “kitty/cat.

What baby falcons dream about.

Imprinting: a developmental process that happens when a young bird of prey is raised by humans during a critical stage of growth, causing the bird to identify more strongly with humans than its own species. In falconry and education, some birds are intentionally human-imprinted so they are more comfortable around people and better suited for educational programs and handling. However, imprinting also means these birds usually cannot survive successfully in the wild, as they may not develop normal wild raptor behaviors such as fear of humans, species-specific social behavior, or independent survival skills. This is why many imprinted raptors remain in professional care for life, where they can still express natural behaviors through flying, enrichment, training, and daily husbandry while serving as educational ambassadors for their species. 🦅

Breakfast and crossword puzzles but make it Hawk style.🪶
On non-fly days, we don’t always just hand over their meals Mariposa’s mouse got tucked inside a paper tube today for a little enrichment—encouraging natural behaviors like problem solving, tearing, manipulating, and working for food the way a wild Harris Hawk would.

Enrichment is such an important part of keeping intelligent birds mentally stimulated and engaged in their daily routines. Safe, simple activities like this can make a huge difference in the wellbeing of birds in human care
