It’s simple.
“You can have excuses, or you can have results.”
These two athletes have been consistently coming to classes for months now. They are always in the gym, working hard, and now their dreams are becoming reality.
One more thing about these two- THEY👏🏼ARE👏🏼COACHABLE👏🏼!
Always willing to listen to constructive criticism, make corrections, trust the process, the coaches, and themselves (even if in can be hard at times)!

We had a first the other day! I love setting up ways for athletes to figure out a new skill safely on their own (of course with some guidance). This will make them much more confident when attempting on new surfaces like the floor! Great job Randa!! 💞

Landing your first full is such an experience (especially when you just turned 10 last month!) All skills take lots of time and dedication to perfect, but this skill is a little more intricate. We have been working on this skill for a while now, and today was the first day Lily actually began to get the timing and consistency right. The first video is her first one on her feet- I was SO happy to see her land this, but it is easy to see the rushed into it and pretty much pulled it right off the tumble track. We reset with her layout so she could practice taking off at a better angle and to remind her that a full IS A LAYOUT! “Full” is short for full twisting layout. You can see how much better her take off is in the last video. She literally gave me chills today.

Side note: I have never spotted Lily’s full. She has learned this skill through drilling and verbal corrections which is truly the best thing for an athlete (with this skill) in my opinion. A skill of this caliber requires the athlete to have the capability to make corrections on their own.

Lily may think I have taught her so much, but she has truly taught me more. I started working with her when she was 6 going on 7. I have been able to take her through each skill from a back walkover up to this point and it has been challenging but so much more rewarding. I can’t wait to keep learning together! 💕

As you can see, in the first layout hips are left out creating a piked shape. After recording the first video, I asked the athlete to tell me what shape a layout should be, her response was “Flat.” I then showed her the video I had just taken of her (the first video) and she said, “Oh, I am in a pike!”

After talking about what shape she should be striving for, I had the athlete create a “flat” shape (many would refer to this position as a candlestick) various times for about 10-15 seconds each hold- some with arms in the entry (lifting) position of the lay and some with arms in the position as to mimic after hips have lifted to meet the arms in the air to finish the skill. I showed her the pictures I had taken of her doing this and we compared them to her “piked” shape in the first video.

The second video is the athlete’s attempt at fixing the layout shape after practicing holds and visually seeing her error through pictures and video comparisons. As you can see, I was very pleased with her next attempt (second video).

The reason for this super long caption is to stress the importance of your athlete totally understanding the mechanics of a skill before it is taught- otherwise it will not ever truly be mastered. Visuals like pictures and videos are great ways to help an athlete realize what correction you are asking them to make and helps eliminate confusion.
