Nellie went on a track a few weeks back and wanted absolutely nothing to do with the track even when 🩸 was everywhere.. this big boy is who she was put on.. here is proof of life and explanation as to why she wanted no part of it. Not a mortally wounded deer. Hoping this Hunter gets a lethal one in him next go around, he is a dandy!

Trust the dog, they know better than we do.

A little about us!

Hi! My name is Lexi Hume Many of you know me but for those who don’t, I will tell you a little about me.

I raise registered & health tested basset hounds as a little side hobby. I am a firm believer in bettering the breed you breed and giving back to your stock you have. My dogs are more than just dogs to me, they’ve became a huge part of my life. People around here usually know me by my dogs, not by my name! My dad, Jerry Lee, has bloodhounds. His are registered and health tested breeders as well. He has the same mind set as I do. We both love hound dogs and wanted to get them working.

The main tracker, Oakley, is a 7 year old bloodhound. She is the one in the picture. Her breeding career ended but her tracking career hasn’t. This girl has the heart and the drive to go to the end of this earth after a deer. She is an absolutely amazing dog to watch work. I mainly run Oakley because she is an absolute BULL on a track. When she says go, she means hold on, we’re fixing to find out what this deer has done and where it’s at. This dog has yet to fail me. It took her and I a little bit on our personal tracks to learn each other. She gives me cues and if I question her, she will either correct herself or tell me she is right.

A cues we have learned from eachother:
-popping jaws loud with tail pointed, on track.
-popping jaws and tail freely, searching.
-nose high in the air, shes winding the deer.
- belly crawling, scent is very far and few between and very weak.
-locked on and baying, deer is still alive and not far ahead.
-refuses to track, not a mortally wounded deer.
-on track and looking back at me, another reassurance she is on trail.
-i pull her back and ask If she Is sure, if she back tracks and goes another way, she is correcting herself, if she goes back the same path and looks back at me, she’s telling me that is the right way.

We are sending off Oakleys daughter, Benelli, next month to be trained along with my stud basset, Harlow, and a mini dachshund named Rigley.

Last year, I teamed up with Austin Anthony. He sent me some tracks to do and I will be teaming up again with him this year as well.

We will have 4 working dogs and up to 4 handlers. Last year, I had to turn some tracks down due to not enough time to get there or dog already on a track. This year, I said I did not want to turn down a track if I did not have to so that is why I am sending off 3 other dogs to be trained.

Starting September 15th, we will be more than ready to track for you!

The only dates that we will not be available is November 8th & 9th (wedding preparation & wedding day!) and I personally will not be available November 25-29th (honeymoon) but Jerry Lee will be and I can always get ahold of Austin to see if he can run for ya!
