Mid-America Hap Ki Do Class Information:
Classes for Mid-America Hap Ki Do are taught in 5-week sessions, with one week off in between sessions.

Beginners Class is 6pm - 7pm, Tuesday and Thursday, and Advanced Class is 7pm - 8pm, Tuesday and Thursday, both held at the Salt Fork YMCA in Marshall, Missouri. For more information or to register for classes, contact the YMCA at 660-886-9622. Mission Statement:
The Hap Ki Do Martial Arts Program aims to promote self-defense, discipline, fitness, and confidence through traditional martial arts tr

aining. Our goal is to help students of all ages develop strength, balance, and respect for themselves and others. Training is designed to improve physical conditioning, mental focus, and moral character while preserving the traditions of authentic Hap Ki Do. About the Instructor:
Instructor Victor Marolf, began his martial arts journey over four decades ago in 1984, dedicating himself to the art of Hap Ki Doโ€”a discipline emphasizing control, redirection, and defense over aggression. His education started with years of training in traditional martial arts classes, and he then also broadened his knowledge through engaging with other expert practitioners of various martial arts and incorporating their techniques into his arsenal. While in Las Vegas, he trained at Xtreme Couture Mixed Martial Arts, run by former UFC Hall of Fame member Randy Couture. Instruction there included boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiujitsu,

Mr. Marolfโ€™s teaching philosophy centers on courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and an indomitable spirit. Each class balances tradition with practical self-defense to empower students both physically and mentally.

Classes for tonight are canceled due to the storm that came through. There will be additional classes at the normal time on May 5 to make up for today.

Promotion testing for the beginner class will be this Thursday instead of today.

Sorry for any inconvenience. I hope everyone is safe and doing well.

White Belts who would like to test for their Yellow Belt, please remember to pay your $30 promotion testing fee at the front desk. The standard testing fee is $40, but weโ€™ve reduced it for White Belts to help with startup costs. This fee also includes your new color belt and promotion certificate. Testing will take place during class on Thursday, April 23.

Yellow and Gold Belts will test on April 30. Please stop by the front desk if you still need to pay your promotion testing fee.

For those who are curious, Hap Ki Do classes will continue throughout the summer sessions at the Y. The session structure is designed to give students and families flexibilityโ€”allowing you to take vacations or skip a session when needed, then continue your martial arts journey when the next session begins.

As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you to all of our students and parents!

Someone left their light blue/green tumbler in class tonight. The staff at the front desk have it if it's yours. Have a great weekend!

Apparently there was a technical issue at the front desk for those who wanted to order uniforms Thursday. I contacted the YMCA, and everything should be working now. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Advanced class students in the 7:00 p.m. class will be beginning light sparring using gloves generously provided by the YMCA. All sparring will be done with controlled contact, but protective gear is still required for safety.

Students will need a ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ต๐—ด๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ to help protect their teeth. In most cases, a standard boil-and-bite mouthguard should work well unless the student has special dental needs, such as braces. In that case, I recommend asking your dentist which type of mouthguard would be most appropriate.

Male students will also need an

Until a student has both required pieces of protective equipment, sparring in class will be limited to light punching to the torso only, with no punches allowed to the head.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here or send me a message. Thank you!

Sad to hear about the passing of Chuck Norris. He was an inspiration to countless martial artists. Air Force veteran, movie and television star, martial artist, and 6-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion (1968โ€“1974).

If your student is planning to test for their Yellow Belt, please be sure to order their uniform as soon as possible.

Opening up a second youth class means we had some new students starting the session later, so testing for their Yellow Belts (by White Belts) will be moved out one week further to March 19th during regular class time.

For uniform ordering details and assistance, please contact the YMCA, as they handle all orders.

Testing for Gold Belt by Yellow Belts will also be March 19th during class.

Thank you for helping your student be prepared and ready to test!

Path to Black Belt:

The time listed for each belt represents the amount of time a student trains at that rank before becoming eligible to test for the next belt.

*Time training as a yellow belt is slightly longer because of the extra sulgi (self-defense techniques) taught.
