After a standout race at the Royals Cross Country Challenge, the team set a new school record as the fastest women’s squad in Mars Hill history. Finishing just behind No. 8 North Greenville helped secure their spot in the Week 5 NCAA DII Southeast Region Rankings by the USTFCCCA released on Tuesday.

The Lions return to the Southeast Region rankings, checking in at No. 7 — their first appearance since 2017. 🦁💨

The Mars Hill Men’s Cross Country team earned its spot in the Week 5 NCAA DII Southeast Region Rankings, released by the USTFCCCA on Tuesday. The Lions have impressed in recent weeks with strong team performances at both the Louisville Cross Country Classic and the Royals Cross Country Challenge, outpacing several programs ranked in the Southeast Region including Young Harris, Tusculum, and UVA Wise.

The Lions ran to new record times at the Royals Cross Country Challenge! 🦁

The women crushed the old Mars Hill University record (held by the national qualifying 2004 team) by running a new school record 5k team average of 19:14.

The men also posted excellent times and tied the 4th fastest team ever (and the fastest in 8 years) with an 8k team average of 25:46.

The Mars Hill University Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams had a great time under the lights at the Bruins XC Night Classic! Both teams kicked off the season with 2nd place finishes out of 16 teams. Three women and two men were recognized for finishing in the Top 10 - Sophie Ratcliff, Natalee Powers, Lola Korth, DJ Chadwell, and Matthew O’Conner. Keep an eye on the Mars Hill Mountain Lions this season!
